Finn is already moving on after his breakup with Flame Princess, and visits Castle Lemongrab with Princess Bubblegum.

Tropes

  • Abusive Parents: Lemongrab becomes even more abusive than he was before, if that were possible.
  • Adipose Rex: Lemongrab is both fatter and meaner than he was beforehand.
  • All According to Plan: Finn comes up with a plan to prank Lemongrab, which fails pathetically, and gets him and Peebs thrown in the dungeon, just as Peebee had planned for, since it will allow them to try and rescue Lemonhope.
  • Apologetic Attacker: The Lemon Children apologize repeatedly to Finn as they attack him on Lemongrab's orders.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Lemongrab has managed to change his weird family into a mockery of medieval society.
  • The Atoner: Lemongrab 2, who knows how abusive his twin is being to their children.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Lemongrab eats his twin and goes completely batty.
  • Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: Lemongrab hates Lemonhope's sweet harp song, but both Lemongrabs love his discordant attempts to play the flute.
  • Bait-and-Switch: During the ceremonial banquet, two lemons come on stage, one wearing a leotard and the other carrying a violin. But instead of dancing and playing music, they just start screaming and slapping themselves.
  • Bittersweet Ending: With the help of Lemongrab 2 and the Lemon Children, Finn and Princess Bubblegum are able to save Lemonhope from the tyrannical Earl of Lemongrab, but Lemongrab 2 is eaten. Alive. Additionally, at the end of the episode, Finn seems to realize that he can´t be with Princess Bubblegum as a couple, so he decides to return to Flame Princess.
  • Body Horror: Lemongrab 2 now has half of his head missing and is completely crippled to the point of needing a hovercraft. Because Lemongrab ate his legs.
  • Bowdlerise: Censored versions of this episode cut the addition of the vinegar to Lemongrab's pudding (to avoid telling kids how to make a vinegar-soda eruption) and tone down the most gruesome parts of Lemongrab eating Lemongrab 2.
  • The Caligula: Lemongrab becomes this, becoming more psychotic as the episode drags on.
  • Call-Back:
    • Finn is still broken up with Flame Princess and is trying to flirt with Bubblegum again.
    • The results of Lemongrab eating Lemongrab 2 are shown in this episode.
    • There are several direct references to "Too Young", including the return of PB's Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: Easily one of the most serious episodes in the series.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Bubblegum and Finn prank Lemongrab like in "Too Young", though it has much graver results.
    • B-Mo keeps trying to get into Jake's bath. "Holly Jolly Secrets" established the little guy likes baths.
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: to Too Young.
  • Dark Is Evil: Lemongrab 1 wears dark clothes and is a bullying Adipose Rex; by contrast, Lemongrab 2 wears white and is The Atoner.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: Lampshaded. Bubblegum notes that the Lemongrabs are completely opposite now in both shape and morality.
  • The Dog Bites Back: While Lemongrab 2 is too battered to reasonably fight his brother anymore, he does try when 1 starts screaming "unacceptable", muttering "acceptable" just loud enough to be heard.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Finn largely ignores all of the problems around him in his preoccupation with trying to get PB to be romantically interested in him.
  • Electric Torture: Lemongrab now forces all his subjects to permanently wear shock collars.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Lemongrab sounds much deeper with his added girth.
  • Extreme Doormat: Lemongrab 2 becomes this after Lemongrab ate most of his body in "Another Five Graybles".
  • Fauns and Satyrs: One of the Lemon Children is a goat headed satyr.
  • It's All About Me: Lemongrab is even more self centered than he was before.
  • Jerkass: Lemongrab 1, who has become even worse than he was before.
  • Jerkass Ball: Finn, keeping the ball from last time, lies to Jake so he can hang out with Princess Bubblegum by hiself, and spends more time flirting with Bubblegum than fixing the problem, even when he and Peebs are in serious danger.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Lemongrab goes completely ape-mad by the end of the episode.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Lemongrab's child abuse and torture of his twin. He even destroys Lemonhope's harp just because it annoyed him. He also refuses to let Princess Bubblegum take him, even though he despises Lemonhope.
    • Lemongrab also steals food from his starving citizens.
    • Finn lying about Jake not being liked by Bubblegum anymore.
  • Large and in Charge: Lemongrab with his newly added girth.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Lemonhope is a beacon of hope
    • Lemongrab is much grabbier than he was before.
  • Mood Whiplash: One moment, the two Lemongrabs are enjoying Lemonhope’s discordant flute music, the moment Lemongrab 2 frees the prisoners, Lemongrab breaks down in anger and eats him.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Could be seen as the intermediary between "Frost and Fire" and "Earth and Water"
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Finn's actions in not preventing Lemongrab's growing madness and abuse, which makes him realize what a douchey boyfriend he was to Flame Princess.
  • Pet the Dog: Lemongrab 2 constantly tries to better the Lemon Children's situation.
  • Sanity Slippage: Lemongrab becomes even more psychotic than he was before.
  • Serial Escalation:
    • Lemongrab becomes even more of a Jerkass than he was before.
    • How selfish can Finn get.
  • Sequel Episode: This serves as one to "Its All Your Fault", "Another Five Graybles", "You Made Me" and has callbacks to "Too Young".
    • It's also seen as one to "Frost And Fire".
  • Ship Sinking: this episode really sells it hard as Finn finally realizes he really does not have ANY chance with Bubblegum at all and that age isn't just a number. All episodes after this seem to have Finn give up entirely on any romantic feelings towards her altogether, showing this is the episode where he finally gives up on her.
  • Shout-Out: The force-field jail cell in Lemongrab's castle is similar to those in Star Trek.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Due to the events of "Another Five Graybles", it becomes more apparent that Lemongrab 1 and 2 are completely opposite in scales of morality.
  • Title Drop: Lemongrab thinks that Finn and Bubblegum's schemes are more "pranks" like they pulled on him in "Too Young", and as Finn, Lemonhope, and Princess Bubblegum flee the castle he yells that Bubblegum is "too old" for such shenanigans.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Lemongrab who becomes less of a Jerkass and more of a full blown, abusive Adipose Rex.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Lemongrab 2 becomes much nicer after Lemongrab eats him in "Another Five Graybles".
  • Unexpectedly Dark Episode: Easily one of the darkest episodes of the entire series. We see Lemongrab 1 cruelly abusing his children/subjects (especially Lemonhope), and he later swallows his brother whole.
  • Villainous Glutton: Lemongrab, who now looks the part, especially when eating his twin.
  • Wham Episode: Lemongrab backslides into full-blown villainy and eats his brother alive. Not to mention the episode being filled with several scenes of graphic child abuse.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Lemongrab is perfectly fine with abusing his Lemon Children.
