- Affection-Hating Kid: When Finn and Marceline get into the couples-only night, Finn is disgusted to see they're showing a sappy romantic movie, and all the other couples there are making out.
- Not Afraid of You Anymore: Jake's fear of Marceline has disappeared come this episode. As he puts it, he realizes his fear was based on ignorance—though that won't stop her from startling him.
- Serenade Your Lover: This is Jake's "phase two" to win Bubblegum, complete with a troubadour costume (or "lute suit", as he calls it).
