She also wore a version of her old Supergirl outfit, blue skirt and all. The headband from her last outfit had been abandoned long ago. It might have been intended as an equality statement, since men were traditionally only headband wearers, but after a while she just thought it looked stupid.

Everyone in America was making a concerted effort to look shaggy and horrible and, not to brag, but I was better at that than perhaps anyone else. My hair was long and feathered, my clothing cheap, tight, and made entirely from petroleum-based fibers. It was also fashionable (at least among troubled loners like myself) to wear glasses with smoked lenses, and mine were as thick and off-putting as any out there. So, take this already horrible package and garnish it with a patchy, adolescent beard and you’ve got an appearance that causes women to run as quickly as they can to their nearest bulk pepper spray provider.
