"People think I get some sort of sick thrill out of killing people. (Beat) And yeah, that pretty much sums it up."

Hades: Did you forget who you're talking to? I am the Lord of the Dead!
Auron: No wonder no one wants to die.

"Hades has really gotten a bad rep over the years. People hear 'King of the Underworld' and suddenly all they can see is Satan. The thing is, mythological Hades never did ANYTHING to deserve his bad rep. Sure, he kidnapped Persephone, but this was a time when kidnapping your future wife wasn't as frowned upon as it is today. And by all accounts their relationship was remarkably functional. He asked Zeus to stop Asclepius from resurrecting the dead, but it's not his fault that Zeus interpreted that as 'set the guy on fire.' He helped Orpheus reunite with his dead wife, and hey, it's not his fault the kid did the one thing he warned him not to do. By all accounts, Hades is a really Nice Guy who loves his wife, keeps his promises, and does his job. Also there's evidence that Cerberus means 'spotted', so this enormous dork also named his three-headed hellhound 'Spot'. You gotta love this guy!"

"Pluto's cool. It's not his fault he runs the Underworld. He just got bad luck when the gods were dividing up the world, you know? Jupiter got the sky, Neptune got the sea, and Pluto got the shaft."

"'I rule the Underworld,' I said. 'I’m not the god of death.' I wished these mortals would get that straight. They always think I’m the bad guy."

Hercules: Uncle Hades, it is wrong to condemn people after they've changed for the good. Now, you can prove yourself to be an even greater god than my father, Zeus. He doesn't care about mortals, but you do. Give them a chance to change.
Hades: Greater than Zeus?
Hercules: Yeah. The legend of your compassion will sweep the world.
Hades: My image could use a boost.
Young Hercules, "A Lady in Hades"

"I'm quite feared up there. Most of them can't distinguish between me and, say, Ares — or your father, even. We fill them with despair. No helping it."
Thanatos, Hades
