Basic Trope: A female character is a skilled mechanic, and usually attractive as well.
- Straight: Alice is a brilliant mechanic, with a fiery personality and a full figure. Owing to the grungy nature of her work, she often wears light clothes that expose her midriff.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice can intuitively fix any object or device, including ones she's never seen before or strange, alien technology.
- Alice is both a mechanical superscientist and supermodel attractive, with a ridiculous hourglass figure.
- Alice has a reputation at the garage for getting her clothes stuck in machinery or snagged and then ripped off by power tools, giving the other mechanics and waiting customers a show. She doesn't do it intentionally, but she admits that the incidents always result in much bigger tips.
- Alice works in a garage where all the mechanics are gorgeous, full-figured women wearing skimpy tops as they work. For extra fees, they'll wash your car or let you take selfies with them next to it, and if you tip really well, they'll also detail your interior. Their customers trend male, for some reason.
- To combat the heat and the sweat of the garage, Alice opts to go completely topless while working. She notes that ever since she started doing that, business is up, customers no longer complain about the wait, and the guys who work at the garage have been really good sports about it.
- Downplayed: Alice is an amateur mechanic, but isn't especially talented, driven, or attractive.
- Justified:
- Alice comes from a long line of distinguished mechanics, and wants to keep the family legacy afloat.
- Alice was raised by a legendary mechanic who taught her everything that she knows.
- Inverted: Alice is both unattractive and bad at fixing things.
- Gender-Inverted: Bob is a brilliant mechanic, and also a Chick Magnet.
- Subverted:
- Alice gave up being a mechanic long ago, after an errant fix got someone hurt.
- Alice has mangled limbs, that make fine manual skills difficult.
- Alice hates garages because of the smell.
- Double Subverted:
- The team helps Alice move past her trauma, and she picks up the wrench once more.
- Alice gains highly dexterous Artificial Limbs.
- Alice wears a gas mask, and then she can't smell anything.
- Parodied: Bob is told by every townsperson that whatever you need fixed, Alice can fix it. After enough recommendations, Bob finally decides to go visit, and it turns out Alice is a veterinarian specializing in spaying surgeries.
- Zig-Zagged: Sometimes Alice is a brilliant mechanic, and sometimes she's not. It depends on if she's familiar with the manufacturer of the machine. Her beauty vacillates as well, depending on how sooty she's gotten from a day's work.
- Averted: The team never meets a female mechanic.
- Enforced: "We need Fanservice, but it's an episode that deals with a garage. Let's make one of the mechanics a stunningly beautiful woman!"
- Lampshaded: "With Alice being so pretty, it's interesting she went into machining, of all things. I can't complain, the craftsmanship on this is amazing."
- Invoked: Alice's father pays so that she can attend trade school.
- Exploited:
- Alice intentionally leans into her attractiveness to get bigger tips from male customers.
- A group of badguys corners Bob at the garage, until Alice jumps out, rips off her top, and asks the badguys if they've ever seen headlights like these before. The badguys are stunned speechless, and then knocked out by Bob from behind with a wrench. Bob is about to thank her, but is then stunned speechless as well, and Alice screams at him to stop looking.
- Defied: Alice's father suggests that she get into machining, like the rest of the family. Alice says that life isn't for her.
- Discussed: "Have you met Alice? Incredible mechanic, and pretty too!"
- Conversed: "They've got Alice as a hot mechanic, now." "Are hot mechanics a thing?"
- Implied: Bob leaves his broken car at Alice's house, and the next morning, he finds it miraculously fixed.
- Deconstructed:
- Alice has to deal with a lot of misogyny in garages, where male co-workers typically assume she knows less than them.
- Alice has to put up with a lot of clumsy advances and catcalling from both co-workers and customers.
- Reconstructed:
- Alice is so talented, that her male co-workers quickly learn that they have nothing to teach her.
- Alice starts carrying an oversized wrench around, that she pounds into her empty hand like a bat. The comments stop immediately.
- Played for Laughs:
- Several male customers crash their vehicles on purpose, just so they have an excuse to talk to Alice as she works on their car at the garage.
- Alice is immensely popular for the complimentary car washes she gives, after her servicing. She tells Bob that she doesn't even do that thorough of a cleaning, so she doesn't really get what the draw is. She then proceeds to wash a customer's windshield in her sheer white T-shirt, and we see the customer from inside the car move his gaze up and down in time with Alice's chest on the glass.
- Bob is waiting for his car to get fixed when Alice walks past him, appearing to be topless from the back but with her hands in front of her. She approaches an older mechanic without a shred of shame, and tells him she's been having trouble with her pair all day. The older mechanic asks her if she wants him to oil them, and she says that'd be great if he wouldn't mind. Bob looks on in shock as the mechanic squirts some oil on her, and paws at her front. The mechanic says they also feel a little tight, so he'll try loosening them up. Bob can't believe his eyes as the mechanic appears to grab onto her front with two wrenches and twists, while Alice says that felt like it helped. The older mechanic says there's nothing left to do but give them a jolt, as he reaches forward with a pair of gator clamps attached to wires. There's a sparking sound, and Alice's voice flutters as she says she can really feel them shaking. Bob faints in his chair, and Alice finally turns around: she is merely wearing a Sexy Backless Outfit, and holding a pair of motors in her hands.
- Played for Drama:
- One of the other garage workers develops feelings for Alice, and doesn't know how to tell her.
- Alice's garage is going to go out of business, so she has to find a way to drum up money fast.
