Playing With / Wrecked Weapon

Go To

Basic Trope: The antagonist shows how dangerous he is by destroying the hero's weapon.

  • Straight: Claidheamh wrecks Sir Robert's sword, causing the latter great distress.
  • Exaggerated: He then proceeds to snap Marcy's magic wand in four and tear out all the pages in her spellbook, crush all of Lance's daggers, dismantle Hans' guns, snap Kurt's bow in half over his knee, smash the guitar of Quirby, and basically destroy everyone's weapons, much to the absolute depression and mania these acts cause them. The craziest part is that he did all of this bare handed!
  • Downplayed: Claidheamh's claymore chips through Sir Robert's sword. While it's not utterly devastating, it does make the sword look terribly ugly.
  • Justified:
    • Claidheamh knew that breaking someone's weapon would cause them extreme distress.
    • Weapons are also a status item, which means breaking them would cause the owner immense grief.
  • Inverted: Claidheamh fixes Sir Robert's sword as a sign of goodwill.
  • Subverted: Claidheamh just tosses the sword away...
  • Double Subverted: ...Directly into a furnace.
  • Parodied: Claidheamh, for constantly invoking this trope, is given an Embarrassing Nickname: "Weapon Wrecker"
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Claidheamh doesn't wreck anyone's weapons.
  • Enforced: To show off how Claidheamh is so tough, duh.
  • Lampshaded: Comical Overreacting ensues: "NOOO!!! Not my prized sword! THAT'S IT, CLAIDHEAMH! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!"
  • Invoked: See Justified #1.
  • Exploited: Well, now that their weapons are wrecked, Sir Robert and his team are sitting ducks.
  • Defied: Sir Robert and his team, knowing Claidheamh's reputation for invoking this trope, immediately stash their weapons away in the meantime, which turns every Claidheamh fight into a weaponless one, as every team member casts their current class aside for the Bare-Fisted Monk class.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
