Playing With / Wolves Always Howl at the Moon

Go To

Basic Trope: Wolves (and often other canids, including werewolves) howl at the moon.

  • Straight:
    • Wolfgang the werewolf transforms and immediately howls to the full moon afterwards.
    • A pack of wolves howls to the moon.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Wolves do howl in the presence of a moon, but it's not necessarily because of it.
    • Wolves are seen howling at night, but not necessarily the moon.
  • Justified:
    • Werewolves feel good right after they transform, which is usually on a full moon, and their immediate response is to howl.
    • In werewolf societies, the moon is an object of worship - howling to it is how they show their respects.
  • Inverted: Wolves howl at the sun.
  • Subverted: A pack of wolves is seen howling when the moon is out. However, in a Surprisingly Realistic Outcome, it's for an unrelated reason.
  • Double Subverted: Still, werewolves do howl at the moon.
  • Parodied: Wolfgang changes into a werewolf and just spends a long time howling at the moon - his friend even asks him if he wants to do anything else in wolf form, but as it turns out Wolfgang only shapeshifted because he's always wanted to howl at the moon.
  • Zig-Zagged: Wolves are sometimes seen howling at the moon, but not all of them do.
  • Averted:
    • There are no wolves or canids.
    • Wolves/canids are never seen howling.
    • Any wolves/canids that howl don't do so at the moon.
  • Enforced:
    • The creator of the work believes that real wolves actually howl at the moon.
    • It's a common trait of werewolves.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Wolves refuse to howl at the moon.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
