Basic Trope: A character who belongs to multiple minority groups while the rest of the cast is of majority.
- Straight: In a cast consisting mainly of Christian, heterosexual, right-handed white men, the Token Minority, Bob, is black, gay, and a left-handed Muslim.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob is half-black, half-Hispanic, Sikh, deaf, amputee, autistic, bisexual, ambidextrous, and has Ambiguous Gender.
- Bob is a member of every minority imaginable.
- Downplayed:
- Bob is Austrian, and a Catholic Christian in a cast consisting of mainly Parisian, Protestant Christian characters.
- Bob is left-handed black with albinism in a cast consisting of entirely right-handed black characters with typical physical traits of black people.
- Token Minority
- Justified: Bob, the only black character, is Muslim, as Islam is a popular religion of his family's heritage, perhaps Western African.
- Inverted:
- Bob isn't a member of any minority group of the story's setting at all (e.g. a White Male Lead in a story set in Europe or America).
- In the cast full of extremely diverse characters, Bob is the Token White, able-bodied, neurotypical, rich, gender-conforming, straight cis man.
- Subverted:
- Bob drops his religion...
- Bob is Black and Muslim...just like the rest of the cast.
- Double Subverted: ..and then comes out about being gay and autistic.
- Parodied:
- Bob is 1/2 black, 2/3 Asian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, an Extreme Omnisexual, and the only guy in his class who watches anime.
- Bob is a a 1/4 ninja, 1/4 pirate, 1/4 zombie and 1/4 robot, all of which are oppressed minorities in the world he's living in.
- Zig Zagged: Bob, who's black, starts out practicing Islam, but later converts to Christianity. Later he comes out about being gay and learns that he's part Asian. As the cast becomes more diverse, Bob is no longer a minority in any of these groups alone, but he is the only character to be both biracial and homosexual.
- Averted:
- Bob belongs to only one minority group.
- There is no minority in the work.
- Enforced: The creators of the story design Bob to further diversify the cast and show that people can belong to more than one minority group.
- Lampshaded: "Ah, Bob, the only black gay Muslim in town."
- Invoked: Bob converts to Islam largely because it's a minority religion where he lives.

- When asked by his Muslim friend if he would like to convert to Islam, Bob gives a swift and stern "No" in response.
- Bob refuses to hang out with people who aren't black and Muslim like him.
- Discussed: "I'm a black, gay Muslim! I'm like the side character in movies the creators add to fill a quota!"
- Conversed: "Wow, that character belongs to so many minority groups it's like the creators were trying to fill a quota."
- Deconstructed:
- Bob has to deal with twice as much discrimination as someone who only belongs to one minority group.
- Bob struggles with his sexuality in the face of his religion.
- Reconstructed: Despite dealing with double the discrimination, Bob finds there are upsides of being both black and Muslim, like getting more scholarships, to balance things out.
- Implied: Bob combines Ambiguously Brown, Ambiguously Gay, and Ambiguously Jewish.
