Basic Trope: Someone refuses to eat because they're feeling upset.

  • Straight: Danny's best friend, Charles, dies, causing him to enter a Heroic BSoD. Emma offers him food, but he turns it down.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Danny has a horrible Trauma Conga Line in which Charles and many of his other friends die, he gets severely injured in a car accident, and the commercial he hates played on TV again. He stops eating and eventually starves to death.
    • Every time Danny gets upset, he stops eating for a period of time.
  • Downplayed:
    • Danny is feeling a bit down. Emma offers him some food, and he eats a little bit of it, but not very much.
    • Danny accepts the offer, but doesn't actually eat the food, he just saves it for later.
  • Justified:
    • Truth in Television, for some people - negative emotions can cause them to stop feeling hungry.
    • Danny has a tendency to forget to do most things when severely upset, which includes eating.
    • Danny has an eating disorder such as anorexia.
    • Danny wasn't really hungry even before he got upset.
    • Danny is also feeling sick during this moment, and believes that eating could aggravate his condition.
  • Inverted: Danny eats a lot more than he normally does when he feels upset.
  • Subverted: Danny is about to refuse Emma's food offer, but ends up taking the food anyway.
  • Double Subverted: It's to save for later.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Nobody declines food when they're experiencing negative emotion.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Danny is forced into eating something.
  • Discussed: "Is something wrong with Danny? He won't even eat his Trademark Favorite Food."
  • Conversed: "Why do characters tend to refuse to eat when they're feeling down?"
  • Implied: When the other characters check in on Danny while he's in his Heroic BSoD, a plate of food that seems to have been there for a period of time can be seen in his room.
  • Played for Drama:
    • This is a sign that O.O.C. Is Serious Business, as Danny is ordinarily a Big Eater.
    • Danny does this because he has an eating disorder.
    • Danny ends up malnourished as a result of doing this.
