Basic Trope: A character who fights using immobile minions.

  • Straight: Dell fights by deploying an immobile Sentry Gun to shoot at enemies.
  • Exaggerated: Dell can deploy a whole army of sentry guns at once.
  • Downplayed: Dell has the ability to deploy a Weak Turret Gun, but otherwise fights normally for the setting.
  • Justified: Dell is an engineer and not a trained fighter, so he has to rely on his machines to do the work for him.
  • Inverted:
    • In a setting where everyone can deploy sentry guns, Dell is the only one who fights "conventionally".
    • Dell has the ability to instantly destroy any sentry gun.
  • Subverted: Dell looks like he's going to deploy a sentry gun, but it actually turns out to be a harmless decoy.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: Dell is a Walking Techbane that can never get his turrets to work properly, and regularly applies Percussive Maintenance to get them functioning.
  • Zig-Zagged: Dell looks like he's deploying a sentry gun, but it's actually just a decoy. But then, he gets the materials to build a real turret, and does so... except it's actually a bomb disguised as a sentry gun.
  • Averted: Neither Dell nor anybody else in the setting uses turrets to fight.
  • Enforced: Dell has a sponsorship from a company that produces sentry guns, so he's forced to use their products in his battles whether he likes it or not.
  • Lampshaded: "Well, I could get into a big, messy brawl with ya... or I could just let this here turret do all the work for me. I think I'll go with that."
  • Invoked: The main characters need someone who can deploy turrets to help them in battle, so they encourage Dell to go to a trade school and learn how to build them.
  • Exploited: Dell's opponent stands behind him, causing his sentry gun to fire at him.
  • Defied: Dell's opponent steals all of his sentry guns, forcing him to fight conventionally.
  • Discussed: "This guy is such a coward! When's he going to stop hiding behind his turrets, and fight me like a man?"
  • Conversed: "You're playing as Dell? He's so boring! All you do is just set down the gun and wait for it to kill people!"
  • Implied: Dell isn't a main character, but when he's seen fighting in the background, he's always seen near a sentry gun.
  • Deconstructed: Dell's sentry guns are unreliable at best and useless at worst, and always Awesome, but Impractical. It's only a matter of time before mechanical failure eventually leads to his death in battle.
  • Reconstructed: Dell works as a mercenary to pay the bills, but doesn't want to risk getting hurt and being unable to support his family. He uses sentry guns to fight for him to avoid any personal harm.
