Playing With / The Casanova

Go To

Basic Trope: A serial seducer who has a tendency to go through women like some people go through socks.

  • Straight: Michael is a man who seduces every beautiful woman he sees. Because of his charm and good looks, he's usually successful in getting them into his bed. Afterwards, he doesn't even give the woman a second look before he's on to the next one.
  • Exaggerated: The minute Michael walks through the door, every woman in the room, whether they are already attached to someone or not, looks at him. One word out of his mouth is enough to get panties wet and all he has to do is say the word "Go" to start an orgy. He then makes sure to escape via a window before the girls come to from post-coitus bliss and ask for his number.
  • Downplayed: Michael is The Charmer, but he doesn't callously use women then throw them away. He mainly uses his charm to get what he wants or move through life easier, but he isn't someone to take advantage of a woman's heart.
  • Justified:
    • Michael is a spy. His job requires him to sometimes seduce people for information, so he periodically puts on the charm and gets women into bed.
    • Michael is a porn star. The serial seducer aspect is a part he usually plays for his roles in porn, and, as a natural side effect of his job, he sleeps with a lot of women he won't even speak to afterwards.
    • Michael is a Call Boy, a male prostitute that specifically caters to women. Part of his job is be as sexy and seductive for his clients as possible, and, of course, his job requires him to sleep with them.
    • Michael is aromantic but not asexual.
  • Inverted: Michael is asexual. He's neither interested in sex or relationships and lacks any kind of seductive charm whatsoever.
  • Gender-Inverted: Michelle is The Vamp.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted:
    • The rumors about Michael were true at one point and he really was a Casanova, but he tired of that life and now is seeking something more.
    • After Michael finally lands a woman in the sack, he gains enough experience with them to try playing his hand at being a Casanova for real.
    • Michael modifies his behavior just enough that he can finally be the Casanova he always wanted to be.
    • Michael and his wife divorce after she cheats on him. Because of the painful breakup, Michael throws himself into meaningless sex and fleeting relationships with women to bury the pain, becoming the Casanova he was trying to become in the first place
  • Parodied:
    • Michael's powers of seduction are so strong, they are literally a curse: every time he does something remotely sexy, a female animal of any persuasion tries to hump him (including the likes of dogs and farm animals). He's literally the ultimate Casanova and he doesn't want to be.
  • Zig Zagged: Michael starts out as the Casanova, then he meets "The One" and gets married, dropping his Casanova ways. Then he finds out his wife has a cuckquean fetish and wants him to seduce and sleep with other women so that she can watch. He obliges and he returns to his old ways for her sake. However, he hates the old way he used to act, so he convinces his wife that they should remain exclusive from then on and she obliges.
  • Averted:
    • Michael starts the story off married, and thus he never gets a chance to play the hound dog.
    • Michael is single, but the story is not romantic, and thus the plot focuses on something else other than love or sex. Thus, the story never has Michael get into any relationships.
  • Lampshaded: Michael's last name starts with a "C" and many people in-universe assume its Casanova.
  • Invoked: Michael is tutored by a street hustler who teaches him all he knows and actively encourages to become this to get what he wants out of women.
  • Exploited: The bad guys know that Michael is a lecher, so they throw beautiful women at him, hoping that he will slip up and reveal sensitive information.
  • Defied: Michael's father was a "rolling stone" as they say, and Michael actively does everything possible to avoid becoming a man like him.
  • Discussed:
    • "Michael is a man that has never found a woman that can say no, and plenty that can say yes even with a mouthful!"
    • Several women in the story comment that Michael "has a reputation" and "is a guy you should stay away from", with one wondering where he finds the time to "work like he does".
  • Conversed: "Do you think that guy gets bored with all the sex?"
  • Deconstructed:
    • Michael's reputation for loving and leaving people negatively affects his reputation to the point that, soon, no woman wants to deal with him. Other men, even his friends, actively warn their daughters to stay away from him, leaving him lonely.
    • Michael's tendency to use up women leave him feeling empty and unfulfilled, and ends with him finding the hookup lifestyle to be mostly shallow.
    • Michael's tendency to toss women aside finally angers enough of them that several decide to ban together to get their revenge on him.
  • Played For Laughs:
    • Every time Michael tries to hit on someone they turn out to be A) a man in drag, B) an ugly woman, C) Married, with a jealous husband or D) underage. Thus, Michael spends most of his time running from his conquest or their husband for one reason or another, rather than enjoying his sexual conquest.
  • Played For Drama: Michael is a sociopath. His Casanova tendencies are merely a symptom of his inability to connect to people. He spends his life leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake, and his tendency to say "New day, next hunt", just has him moving from one destructive relationship to another. In the end, he is literally incapable of having a normal relationship with someone.
