Basic Trope: An extremely intelligent teenager.

  • Straight: Dylan is 14 years old, and already attending college.
  • Exaggerated: Dylan becomes President of the United States at age 13.
  • Downplayed: Dylan is already a legal professional at age 19.
  • Justified: Dylan was a Child Prodigy or even Brainy Baby beforehand.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Although Dylan gets outstandingly good grades, he's only just started middle school.
    • Dylan is much Older Than He Looks.
  • Double Subverted: But then he gets a letter inviting him to be part of a program for gifted students.
  • Parodied: Dylan becomes an adolescent version of Albert Einstein on his 13th birthday - prior to which he was a naive and unworldly child.
  • Zig-Zagged: Dylan starts out as a genius, but then starts acting like The Ditz due to Phlebotinum-Induced Stupidity. But then it turns out it was all Billy's act, because he's tired of people treating him differently than other teenagers. Or maybe he really is stupid and is lying about it.
  • Averted: Dylan is no smarter or dumber, no more or less capable than any of his peers.
  • Enforced: Teens Are Monsters and no one in Dylan's peer group thinks before acting on rebellious impulses.
  • Lampshaded: "What's a 13-year-old boy doing in college?!"
  • Invoked: Dylan is forced by his mother into all sorts of programs to try and boost his intelligence.
  • Exploited: Billy, Dylan's friend, persuades him to always do his homework for him.
  • Defied: Dylan uses Obfuscating Stupidity, so that he won't be picked on or alienated for being a nerd.
  • Discussed: "Dyaln could get a PhD at age fourteen? He sounds like one of those teen geniuses who always appear on TV".
  • Conversed: "Teenagers on these kinds of shows are always ridiculously smart".
  • Deconstructed: Dylan struggles with social situations because he's a Teen Genius who doesn't relate well to his peers.
  • Reconstructed: Good thing he has friends to keep him from going into a downward psychological spiral.
  • Played For Laughs: Dylan uses his intelligence mainly to fool strangers into thinking he's an adult, and then shocking them by telling them he's only fourteen.
  • Played For Drama: Billy becomes a Broken Ace.

Back to Teen Genius. What, you're thirteen and in college already?!
