Basic Trope: A character who's never had coitus, but has done other sexual acts.
- Straight: Alice has never had vaginal intercourse, but has done hand stuff.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice has done just about every sex act apart from actual coitus.
- Alice is a promiscuous lesbian who still qualifies herself as being a "virgin".
- Alice was raped or sexually assaulted and still considers herself a virgin, believing that losing one's virginity involves making a choice and she never had one.
- Alice has coitus frequently, but has a way to "restore her virginity" that she uses a lot.
- Bob is a promiscuous gay man, but still calls himself a "virgin" because he thinks it doesn't count if he's the one giving oral or anal sex.
- Downplayed:
- Alice has engaged in foreplay or just heavy petting, but never gone further.
- Alice has masturbated/watched porn/both... after all it doesn't count if it doesn't physically involve another person.
- Alice has sent sexual text messages and emails to her boyfriend before, but that's as far as she'll ever go.

- Alice has a high sex drive, but is afraid of getting pregnant, and doesn't trust birth control.
- Alice has some kind of Virgin Power that she'll retain as long as she doesn't have vaginal sex.
- Alice was pledged into marriage with a wealthy family, who don't care what she has done unless she brings illegitimate children into the marriage.
- Alice was born without a vagina but has a clitorus.
- Inverted:
- Alice has had genital-genital sex, but that's the only kind she's ever had
- Alice abuses agenitalic sexual activity (ie. tongue kissing) to claim that she isn't a virgin.
- The Ditz thinks she's a virgin because according to her, vaginal penetration doesn't count.
- Alice broke her hymen outside of sexual activity, and because of this does not consider herself a virgin.
- Bob desperately tries to convince some bullies who are Virgin-Shaming him that hand stuff does count.
- Subverted:
- A character notes that Alice savvy about matters concerning sexual techniques and health for someone who claims to be a virgin, but this is because she has read up on the subject, knowing that the information will come in handy someday.
- Someone hears in the bathroom stall, that Alice is only a in a technical sense, but the characters turns out to be lying.
- Someone points out to Alice that she has had performed many types of sex except vaginal, and asks if this is the reason. It turns out that Alice has a disorder that makes it quite painful.

- Alice has quite the reputation, but insists on thinking of herself as a virgin.
- The "technicalities" end up becoming increasingly absurd as time goes on.Alice: If we pour coke inside to kill all the sperms, it doesn't count, right?
- Olive oil is graded on varying "degrees" of virginity: extra-virgin, virgin, "gold-star lesbian," "does butt stuff count?" etc. (Even though the "virginity" of olive oil has nothing to do with...well, the other kind of virginity.) note
- Zig Zagged: Alice's own definition of what qualifies as sex drifts around quite a bit. Further complicating matters is mental time travel creating a mess of timelines which leads to her status being a philosophical question. Depending on what is considered 'to count' she has lost and reversed said loss several times. Depending on what is considered "to have happened" she is not a virgin by any means, a technical virgin, only had genital-genital, or hasn't had any at all. Even various metrics in universe are inconsistent with whether unicorns accept her or she can use artifacts.

- Alice has the regular kind of sex.

- Alice's supposed to be The Cutie, so she might lose sympathy points if she actually has sex, but the producers don't want her to look like a total prude either.
- Alice is a character in a porn video that caters to this specific fetish.

- "For a virgin, you sure seem to know a lot."
- "Alice, if you're not ready to go all the way, then you should wait or make him work for it before you decide to give him a concession."
- Invoked: Alice decides that she would do something for her dear boyfriend for their anniversary together, but she wants to save her virginity until her wedding night. The decides that oral sex would be best, since television tells her that this would technically allow her to retain her virginity.
- Exploited: Bob looks for Alice since he is looking for a woman who is willing to perform anything but vaginal sex, because he views vaginal sex as an obligation but he doesn't enjoy it. His real pleasure comes from oral or anal sex.
- Defied:
- When Alice gives or receives oral for the first time, she stops considering herself a virgin.
- Alice lives in a setting doesn't believe in the concept of virginity.
- Discussed: Alice wonders what exactly makes non-penetrative activity so virginal. She wonders if virginity means abstaining from sexuality altogether or just refraining from doing that particular variety of it.
- Conversed: "Is this that new teen drama flick? I always hate how they paint the 'innocent' characters like that Alice as a pure and innocent because of how she's a slut that won't do the regular stuff."
- Implied: Alice was never shown in any sex scene, but she is knowledgeable to sex except for coitus.
- Deconstructed:
- Because she doesn't see it as sex, Alice doesn't bother with protection or STI testing. She soon regrets it.
- Alice thinks all gay people are incapable of having sex with each other because of her belief that anal and oral sex isn't actual sex.
- Reconstructed: She's sensible enough to reduce the risks.
- Played For Laughs: All of Alice's sexual encounters are followed by an Insane Troll Logic monologue about how that one didn't count either.
