Playing With / Teasing Parent

Go To

Basic Trope: A parent who likes teasing their children and playing jokes on them, all in good nature.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob like to play jokes on their kids Claire and Danny, and also enjoy coming up with lighthearted secrets. Claire and Danny find this entertaining.
  • Exaggerated: Alice and Bob are both pranksters, and are always getting up to humorous shenanigans to entertain Claire and Danny.
  • Downplayed:
    • The relationship is something like Wacky Parent, Serious Child - the kids are alright with the jokes, but don't necessarily encourage them.
    • Alice and Bob only play jokes like this on special occasions, such as April Fool's Day.
  • Justified:
    • Alice and Bob were both pranksters before they had kids, and decided to continue the tradition for their children.
    • Claire and Danny like practical jokes, so Alice and Bob decide to play along with them.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Alice and Bob are introduced playing jokes on Claire and Danny. The jokes are all in good fun at first, but then things go too far.
  • Double Subverted: Alice and Bob didn't mean to upset their children, and are able to understand that the joke wasn't funny. They avoid that particular joke in the future.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice and Bob never tease their kids.
  • Enforced: "We should show that Alice and Bob have a good relationship with Claire and Danny, while also showing why they're fun people as well."
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Claire and Danny think that it'd be fun if their parents played pranks on them, so they ask them to do something fun for April Fool's Day.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Claire and Danny don't find pranks funny, so Alice and Bob don't do them.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
