Basic trope: A tattooed villain.
- Straight: Emperor Evulz has a tattoo in a prominent place, like his face or his knuckles.
- Exaggerated:
- Evulz has a full body tattoo leaving his natural skin color invisible, has tattoos on his eyes, and is a Complete Monster.
- Every villain has tattoos, but none of the heroes do.
- Downplayed: Evulz has a small tattoo on a body part that is generally unexposed, such as his buttocks or groin.
- Justified: The story is based on a Real Life criminal organization that tattoos themselves.
- Inverted: The Hero has tattoos.
- Subverted: Evulz removes his tattoos.
- Double Subverted: ...because it lets him get new, more evil-looking ones.
- Parodied: A villain has a tattoo just reading "CRIME".
- Alternately, he has a tattoo of something cute or silly, but people still treat him like he's someone to be feared.
- Zigzagged: Sometimes Evulz has tattoos, other times he doesn't.
- Averted: Evulz doesn't have tattoos.
- Enforced: Evulz is part of a group that mandates tattoos.
- Lampshaded: The Hero makes fun of the villain's tattoos for being cliche.
- Invoked: Evulz doesn't especially like tattoos, but he gets one anyway to bolster his Villain Cred.
- Defied: Evulz chooses not to get tattoos because he considers them tacky and doesn't want to look Obviously Evil.
- Discussed: "Look at that guy's tattoo. He's gotta be up to no good."
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: Evulz's tattoos lead to social stigma against people with tattoos, whether they are criminals or not.
