Basic Trope: A character becomes another's friend after being given food.

  • Straight: Alice gives Bob some of her lunch, and they start to become friends.
  • Exaggerated: Alice gives Bob some of her lunch, and he starts to go from a Jerkass to a Nice Guy.
  • Downplayed: Alice shares some of her lunch with Bob, and he becomes slightly more friendly
  • Justified: Bob always wanted to be friends with Alice, but was too shy to say anything. He saw the offer of kindness as a go-ahead to pursue a friendship.
  • Inverted: Alice shares her lunch with Bob, and he becomes less friendly.
  • Subverted: Bob seems offended by the offer.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out he just isn't good at showing gratitude, and becomes friendly later.
  • Parodied: After being given half a candy bar, Big Bad Bob instantly does a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice gives Bob some of her lunch. He seems offended at first, but later warms up to Alice. Then it is revealed he just felt bad about not showing gratitude, and faked becoming friendlier. However, he eventually does become genuinely friendlier.
  • Averted: Alice does not give Bob some of her lunch. Alternatively, Alice gives Bob some of her lunch, but it changes nothing.
  • Enforced: It is a good way to explain a plot-necessary friendship starting up.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Alice gives Bob food in the hopes that he will become her friend.
  • Exploited: Bob "forgets" his own lunch in the hopes that they will become friends.
  • Defied: Bob distrusts Alice and refuses her offer.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Bob comes from a low income family. Most of the money that would be used on lunch was spent on transportation.
    • Bob only befriended Alice because of the food she brings. Whenever food is absent from the setting, Bob ignores her.
