Basic Trope: A character who always has a smug smile on their face.

  • Straight: Nego always gives an arrogant smirk to Hiro.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Nego always gives an arrogant smirk to everyone he meets.
    • Nego has a constant tight lipped, shark eyed smile.
  • Downplayed: Nego gives a simple, smiley, yet arrogant smirk to Hiro.
  • Justified: Nego is a Smug Snake who thinks he's better than everyone.
  • Inverted: Nero gives Hiro a disgusting grump whenever they meet.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Nego punctuates everything he says or does with a smirk.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Nego doesn't give any smirks to Hiro.
  • Enforced: The writer wants to show that Nego is a Smug Snake, and so makes him smirk at Hiro.
  • Lampshaded: "I wish you wipe that damn smirk off your face, you asshole!"
  • Invoked: Nego smirks because he believes it makes him look powerful.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
    • Nego knows this would be a way-too-obvious tell, so he trains himself to never ever do it.
    • Nego's enemies immediately do anything they can to hurt Nego, go against his advice, and poison the well every time they notice him making this smile, achieving it more often than not. As a result, Nego really has no reason to smile at all — or even if he cannot stop himself from smiling, the "smug" part is thoroughly destroyed.
    • Nego only smiles when he needs to smile, and he makes sure that they are more genuine-looking.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Nego's constant smirking only gives people a reason to do whatever it takes to smack it off his face.
