- Bob reads a lot, so he needs them or his eyesight will suffer.
- Bob wears glasses to correct a vision problem he has; his status as The Smart Guy is merely a coincidence.

- Bob is Book Dumb and wears glasses, while the much smarter characters don't.
- Bob is among the sharpest of the main cast and doesn't wear glasses, while anyone below average intelligence does.
- Subverted: Bob wears glasses, so his classmates thinks he's smart, but he does poorly in his studies.
- Double Subverted: Only because he hates academics and purposefully fail his subjects for one reason or another. He's actually a genius when he's motivated to do well.

- Students are shown taking I.Q. tests. Those who score high are issued a pair of glasses by their teacher.
- Bob is accepted into MENSA. Every single person in the building wears glasses, even the janitors, security guards, and the cleaning staff.
- Intelligence is tied to glasses. The Dumb Muscle puts on glasses and immediately becomes a Genius Bruiser.
- Bob takes his glasses off and instantly becomes an idiot.
- Alternatively, the other way around: Bob puts on his glasses and is a Dumbass No More.
- Zig Zagged: Bob only wears his glasses every now and then. Sometimes he needs them for reading, but other times he is fine without.
