Basic Trope: A character which can only be unlocked by a complicated means, often a Guide Dang It!.
- Straight: The player must take Olivia with them to the game's underworld dungeon to unlock the Mon Persephone. It's never hinted that taking her there would do anything during her brief time in the party.
- Exaggerated: The steps to getting Persephone are: talk to two random NPCs, go to three certain areas, check an object too early, listen to a rumor, and take Olivia. As well as that, let some party members have a fight with someone, talk to another random NPC, continue through the game, and wait for the event to be triggered. None of this is hinted at anywhere, making a massive Guide Dang It!.
- Downplayed: In order to unlock Persephone, Olivia must be taken back to her home town from near the beginning of the game. It's well known that Olivia is from there, and the player will most likely visit it anyway, but nobody actively says they should take her back there.
- Justified: When Persephone appears, she states that she fears most humans, but Olivia treated her well in the past.
- Inverted:
- Persephone needs to be obtained to advance the plot, and the player can do so with relative ease.
- Alternately, Persephone can be permanently removed from the playable cast in a secret event.
- Subverted: The player can find information on Persephone and how to get her elsewhere in the game, making her no longer secret.
- Double Subverted: The information is itself very well-hidden.

- Persephone is hated by most of the developers, so they made it complicated to get her.
- PeRsepH0nE is the result of the developers not safeguarding against Olivia's Summon Mon spell calling the mon at slot OutOfBounds as all other places have all 8 slots populated with valid data. Whereas the Random Encounter system is safeguarded against it.
- Lampshaded: "You know, that was a lot of effort just to get one Mon."
- Implied: Even when you have all of the other Mons, there's one blank area in the menu to select them.
