Basic Trope: Someone collapses after completing an awesome but strenuous task.
- Straight: After winning a long, epic duel with Emperor Evulz, Bob blacks out from overuse of his magical powers.
- Exaggerated:
- After winning the duel, Bob’s heart temporarily stops from exhausting his powers, and he falls into a coma (or even worse, it stops permanently and he dies).
- Bob blacks out after systematically defeating all evil in the entire universe, defeating all members of his totalitarian government, and swallowing several jalapeño peppers.
- Downplayed: After the duel, Bob is extremely winded and lightheaded.
- Justified:
- Said magical powers were already established as a Dangerous Forbidden Technique, and Bob had been warned against overusing them.
- All of Bob's magic is Cast from Hit Points, leaving him physically weaker anyway.
- Long and difficult fights are naturally tiring and you don't come off without injuries.
- Inverted: After winning the duel, Bob is completely revitalized and more energetic than ever.
- Subverted:
- Alice, seeing how winded Bob looks, rushes to his side after his victory (expecting this to come into play.) Bob assures her that he’s fine, and stays standing.
- As a result of Bob’s use of Bottled Heroic Resolve beforehand, he stays standing after the duel...
- Double Subverted:
- Bob lied to make sure that Alice wouldn’t worry; he knows his own limits, and passes out as soon as she is out of sight.
- ...but the side effects are enough to bring him down a few minutes later.
- Parodied: After winning a particularly stressful arm-wrestling match, Bob dramatically swoons out of his chair.
- Zig Zagged: Several characters complete feats of the same caliber - some of them collapse afterwards, some of them are perfectly fine.
- Averted: Bob is perfectly fine after the battle.
- Enforced: “Okay, so in order for this story arc to work, Bob needs to not be present - he’d just overpower everyone. Why don’t we just have him be unconscious and exhausted during it?”
- Lampshaded: “He won! …This is the part where he collapses dramatically, right?"
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: The Emperor’s second-in-command, who is still alive, knows the hero is going to collapse after defeating his boss. He waits until he’s unconscious to take his revenge.
- Defied: “What are you talking about? I’m not going to collapse, I’m perfectly fine!"
- Discussed: “You think you can defeat him with this technique? Well, maybe, but you’re going to collapse afterwards if you use as much of it as you say you need to."
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: Bob collapses after killing Emperor Evulz...but it turns out that Evulz isn't quite done yet. Evulz uses this opportunity to kill Bob while he's defenseless.
