Basic Trope: Someone (usually a child) is given candy after an appointment of some sort.

  • Straight: Aaron, a 7 year old, is given candy after his appointment with Dr. Troperson.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Aaron is 14 years old and is given a big bag of candy. His mom Barbara is also given a big bag of candy, even though she just arrived to take him there.
    • All appointments that Aaron could have involve him getting candy - right after his doctor's appointment, he also gets candy from his barber.
  • Downplayed:
    • Aaron doesn't get candy, but does get something such as a sticker or small toy.
    • There is a bowl of candy that patients are allowed to take from, but it's not necessarily offered to them.
  • Justified: Dr. Troperson wanted to encourage kids to get checkups.
  • Inverted: For some reason, Aaron gives the doctor a piece of candy after his appointment.
  • Subverted: Aaron is offered candy, but he decides not to have any.
  • Double Subverted: It's only because Aaron misinterpreted the "Don't take candy from strangers" rule. He finds out that Dr. Troperson is not considered a stranger and takes a piece.
  • Parodied: Dr. Troperson is a dentist that gives out candy. Even Aaron comments on how odd that is.
  • Zig-Zagged: Some people get candy, and some don't.
  • Averted:
    • Nobody is given candy after any appointment.
    • Nobody goes to any doctors, barbers, etc
  • Enforced: Small Reference Pools, occasionally.
  • Lampshaded: "I got some candy at the doctor's office."
  • Invoked: Dr. Troperson decides to buy some candy and put it in his office.
  • Exploited: On a Halloween Episode, Aaron informs his friend Claire that they should go to Dr. Troperson's house because he always has candy in his office.
  • Defied:
    • Dr. Troperson decides not to keep candy in his office.
    • Dr. Troperson has an appointment with a person who has diabetes, so he does not give the visitor anything that contains sugar.
  • Discussed: "You've been a good boy. Have a lollipop!"
  • Conversed: "I wonder why in fiction, kids are often given candy after going to the doctor."
  • Implied:
    • The doctor's appointment is not shown, but Aaron is seen coming back from it with some candy.
    • Dr. Troperson is sometimes seen with a bowl of candy in his office.
