Playing With / Over-the-Shoulder Carry

Go To

Basic Trope: One character, (usually an antagonist) carries another (typically a kidnap victim) slung over one of his or her shoulders in order to transport them.

  • Straight: Sergei hoists Rachel over his shoulder and carries her away while she squirms and pounds her fists against his back in defiance.
  • Exaggerated: Sergei carries Rachel and several other people piled up over one shoulder, to the point where he's basically carrying a human tower, and those piled further up are precariously wobbling as they balance atop the person below them.
  • Downplayed: ???
  • Justified: Sergei is forcibly moving his hostage in a way that renders her mostly helpless.
  • Inverted: ???
  • Subverted: While the difference in strength and size between Rachel and Sergei seems to suggest that he could easily carry her over one shoulder, he leads her away by the arms instead...
  • Double Subverted:..Until she attempts to escape, at which point she is carried.
  • Parodied: Instead of struggling or crying for help, Rachel looks totally bored, drumming her fingers on Segei's back, fiddling with a Rubix cube, filling in the crosswords section of a newspaper, eating a meal, etc. before incessantly asking Are We There Yet? Sergei progressively looks more and more agitated.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Despite being a big guy, Sergei does not carry anybody.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Rachel hides a knife and uses her unconventional vantage point to stab her kidnapper in the back when he least expects it.
  • Reconstructed: After that incident, she's tied up to make sure that doesn't happen.
  • Played for Laughs: Upon being picked up, Rachel berates Sergei and orders him to put her down, protesting that this is not a dignified manner of transportation. One dissolve later, and Sergei is still carrying Rachel, but the two are now doing things like playing "I spy" and stopping at nearby drive-thru's for pit-stops as if they were on a road trip, much to the confusion of the cashier at the window.
