Basic Trope: Character says X is true or their name isn't Y.

  • Straight: Alice and Bob are looking at a building or with strange hieroglyphics all over it. Alice, who is very curious, asks Bob "What does that say?". Bob says "Nobody's tried to find out". Determined, Alice announces "Well, I will find out, or my name isn't Alice!"
  • Exaggerated: Alice says she will have no name at all if she fails to decipher the hieroglyphics.
  • Downplayed: ???
  • Justified: ???
  • Inverted:
    • Alice announces that if she deciphers the hieroglyphics, she will change her name.
    • "I will find out, or my name is Carol!"
  • Subverted: She then decides "I guess it still will be Alice."
