Basic Trope: A character gushes praise about another character who is going to harm them somehow.
- Straight: Alice is planning to hurt Bob. But before she can, Bob walks up to her and tells her what a good person she is and how much he trusts her.
- Exaggerated: Alice is planning on hurting Bob. Bob throws her a party because she's just that nice and trustworthy.
- Downplayed: Alice is planning on hurting Bob, and he always greets her with a smile.
- Justified: Bob has no idea what's coming, but he's still a decent human being who likes Alice.
- Inverted: Alice is planning to help Bob or give him some money. Before she can, Bob walks up and tells her that she is unhelpful or unreliable.
- Subverted: It seems like Alice is going to hurt Bob, but she really isn't, so his praise is justified.
- Double Subverted: After thinking about it, Alice eventually does hurt Bob.
- Parodied: Right before Alice tries to put cyanide in Bob's coffee, Bob hands her a card that specifically says "just wanted to say thanks for not putting cyanide in my coffee!"
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted:
- Alice isn't planning on hurting Bob.
- Bob doesn't praise Alice.
- Enforced: The writers are toying with the idea of Alice doing a Heel–Face Turn, and this is their way of making it happen.
- Lampshaded: "Wow, you really think highly of me? Uh...thanks?"
- Invoked: Carol suspects Alice is treacherous, but also realises Alice still has a conscience. So she sends the completely naive Bob to her in order to guilt her out of her plan.
- Exploited: Bob thinks Alice might be up to something, so he starts gushing praise to try to stop it.
- Defied: Before Bob starts praising her, Alice cuts him off and walks away.
- Discussed: "I wonder what Bob will think after Alice tries it."
- Conversed: "Man, she's gonna feel like a jerk when she goes through with that."
