Go To

Basic Trope: The mature person in a group decides to goof off with the immature members.

  • Straight: Charles decides to go to the nightclub with Bob and Alex, despite being normally against drinking and premarital sex.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Charles follows Bob and Alex into Area 51 to unlock its secrets, despite knowing the legal consequences of doing so.
    • God isn't above having a literal pissing contest with Alex.
  • Downplayed:
    • Charles stays up an hour later than usual to play video games with his friends.
    • Charles sighs at Alex and Bob's jokes, but smirks to himself as he walks away.
  • Justified:
    • Charles is trying to bond with Bob and Alex, so he decided to loosen up.
    • Charles grew out of boredom.
    • After what happened today, Charles needs a freaking drink or 12.
  • Inverted: Bob and Alex decide to refrain from drinking since Charles is.
  • Subverted: Bob and Alex invite Charles to go clubbing with them, and he goes with them, only to transport them, pay for drinks, then go off food shopping until they’re done.
  • Double Subverted: Charles finishes shopping early and decides to join his buddies to save time.
  • Parodied: Charles considers the benefits of loosening up this one time with his friends, including the benefits of suffering consequences firsthand as opposed to heeding warnings.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Sometimes Charles goes along with his friends' antics and sometimes he doesn't.
    • Charles intends to just go shopping, but ends up joining them anyway. As the night goes on the three of them get quite drunk, and Bob is the first of to suggest calling Daniel. Daniel, while hardly a stranger to a good time, recognizes the situation his friends are in, and decides to take them home. The next morning, Alex and Charles are the ones who fondly reminisce over the night before, while Bob is the one deeply embarrassed by their behavior.
  • Averted: Charles doesn't do any immature antics with them.
  • Enforced: The work needed a filler scene.
  • Lampshaded: "You don’t usually go out with us, Charles, what’s new?"
  • Invoked: Charles needed a bit of Character Development.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Charles blocks Bob's and Alex's phone numbers to prevent them from ever calling him.
  • Discussed: "Why are the so-called serious-minded characters always acting as if they are too good or important for something when they contradict and lie to themselves?"
  • Conversed:
"When Charles is always contradicting himself all the time, it can easily make anyone find his actions questionable at times."
  • Implied: Alice would sometimes point out to Bob how many times she's noticed that Charles would contradict himself when sharing an anecdote about how his friends would easily pressure & persuade him to get involved in their antics.

Those were some fun times...never mind, just go back to Not So Above It All.
