Playing With / More Deadly Than the Male

Go To

Basic Trope: Females are deadlier than males, and it's not just a claim.

  • Straight: Female animals, who look weaker than their male counterparts, are notably vicious and cunning as well as being taken even more seriously. The males are laughed at and are dealt with casually.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • While some of them act more viciously, the other females act regularly.
    • While the males are anything but harmless, the females are just slightly more dangerous than their male brethren.
  • Justified:
    • The females are born genuine superhumans, not simply the illusion of being one, while males make up basically the entirety of the muggle population and only exist to keep the population living on (that is, if some advancement doesn't cause them to be deemed obsolete). Their personality is also superhuman due to this.
    • It is much harder for a woman to show up in the show for some reason, so the ones that get past the Double Standard are certified badasses.
    • Larger females of the species can proportionately bear more children. Larger ones need bigger prey to sustain themselves and their many children, so they become more vicious predators.
    • Because of various reasons, most of the fighters Would Not Hit a Girl (even the ones who would still show a nanosecond's worth of hesitation), and the female fighters are all perfectly okay with exploiting this.
    • Female fighters have more to fear from stronger male adversaries, or the consequences of being captured (perhaps including being raped, being more harshly treated due to the enemy thinking it's shameful for a woman to fight, etc.) are much greater than their male comrades, and so fight more desparately.
    • Females of the species have the burden of caring for offspring, so are likely to exhibit Mama Bear tendencies if said offspring are threatened, where males are not.
    • Sometimes a female is simply weaker than a male of the species. To compensate, they get nasty in a fight to ensure they can win.
  • Inverted: The females are physically stronger than men, but they are less vicious, cunning, yet more moral than males.
  • Subverted: The strength of the females is just an Informed Attribute: they're about on par with males.
  • Double Subverted: ...Physically, at least. They're still more formidable for other reasons.
  • Parodied: The males of the species look like normal mostly rabbitoid creatures. The females inexplicably look like bears covered in poison-tipped spikes and several cybernetic-looking machine guns, bazookas, and are capable of spitting acidic nerve agents.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Men and women are about equal in terms of strength.
    • The species is hermaphroditic so 'male' and 'female' don't apply in any meaningful way in isolation. The question of which is deadlier is nonsensical as asking if your heart is deadlier than your lungs.
  • Enforced: "We want to prove that there are a group of females who are objectively, rather than subjectively, superior, and any attempt of misogyny on them is moot or ignorable to these women."
  • Lampshaded: "These women don't screw around. They don't even talk about going to the mall and who would be the best in the beauty pageant. They literally just want to annihilate stuff."
  • Invoked: The Big Bad attempts to enslave a village by kidnapping all the men, so it's up to the women to pull a rescue. The ones that aren't initially up for it go through Training from Hell to get there.
  • Exploited: The army is replaced with an Amazon Brigade.
  • Defied:
    • "No, I don't wanna write some story of aliens that have the females more deadly than the males. You wanna find me a woman willing to go through all the trouble to get practical prosthetics and walk around in five-foot platforms, be my guest. But I assure you — they will all prefer to be a wanna-be Ripley instead, which I can only add by kicking Samuel L. Jackson off the damn cast. So there."
    • All of the females are exterminated by the males of the species because Underestimating Badassery is a unisex trope.
  • Discussed: "Gee, wonder how much money they had to pay Gina Carcano to put on that Predator suit?"
  • Conversed: "It may have a basis in reality, it may be because Kipling is one of the greatest authors of all time, it may be because "get woke, go broke" is more of a gamble than a fact, but I tell you that writers have started to get excessive with the "females are more lethal" thing."
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed: The resulting Dystopia causes both men and women to realize there is something wrong with this picture, and they end up working to nullify the intimidation factor.
  • Played For Laughs: Alice is the best dodgeball player in the county. All of the guys in the cast talk about her as if she was an incredibly deadly assassin.
  • Played For Drama: Alice is the deadliest assassin in the business. Bob knows he's screwed the moment he's told that she was hired to kill him.
  • Played For Horror: The cast is in a Trapped-with-Monster Plot and the moment it goes from "bad" to "complete bloodbath" is when they discover that the monster they are fighting is just a drone and the queen's coming, and mama alien is seriously pissed.
