Basic Trope: A character gains some marking or pattern or their skin to show they have reached their Super Mode.
- Straight: After a long fight against the sinister General Butch Alice and Kyanite are gasping from the intensity of it when Kyanite gains Instant Runes all over his body, signifying he has tapped into his magical side.
- Exaggerated: Kyanite's whole skin is rapidly covered in layers of ruins, startling Alice.
- Downplayed: Kyanite only gets a few markings on his hands that barely look different from his skin color.
- Justified:
- Kyanite can't control when his powers unlock, so he has the marking on him as a way of signaling when it happens.
- Kyanite is actually an elemental masking a human form, the appearance of the ruins signify when his elemental side kicks in.
- The markings regulate the mana that powers his Super Mode.
- The markings are his Super Mode's Power Source.
- Subverted:
- At first Kyanite seems to be unleashing his stronger side, but when he uses an attack nothing happens...
- Kyanite gains ruins on his body... only for them to disappear shortly after.
- Initally Kyanite could only uses his magic after the ruins were on him, but he later gains the ability to use it without the change happening.

- ...In a few minutes however, he can use them normally.
- It turns out General Butch had slipped a Power Limiter on him. When Alice breaks it Kyanite can transition as normal.
- Doing so however makes him gradually lose his moral beliefs. He decides to stick with using magic through his transitioning.
- Parodied: Kyanite accidentally triggers his change during a formal event, disturbing the harmony of it.
- Zigzagged: There's no clear cut whether his changes are from tapping into his powers or his illness.
- Averted: Kyanite's magic doesn't require any transition to happen.
