Basic Trope: A item can only be wielded by its proper owner.
- Straight: Destin has a special sword called Adnexa which can only be used by him in battles.
- Exaggerated: Adnexa can't even be touched by another party member and is in fact also a Clingy MacGuffin.
- Downplayed: He can hand it off to others as long as he trusts them, but they can only use it for a few attacks.
- Justified:
- Destin is The Chosen One, so only he can wield the sword.
- It's an Empathic Weapon that's spent it's whole life with Destin, so naturally it only feels comfortable with him.
- Destin is bound to the sword by an ancient pact. Anyone else using it would be denied usage.
- Adnexa was a Ancestral Weapon, the others couldn't understand how many generations of his family have wielded it
- Inverted: Destin is the only one who can't use Adnexa.
- Subverted:
- When Destin's Rival Turned Evil Cyn surprise attacks him it's discovered he can also use Adnexa effectively.
- Alice grabs the sword in order to defend herself in a surprise attack, and is able to kill an enemy with it.
- While training Destin suddenly loses his ability to use it to make attacks.
- Double Subverted:
- ...Or so it seemed. The cuts revert just as they're made, meaning Destin can't be hurt by it.
- It turns out Alice was also a chosen one, thus she and Destin can both wield Adnexa.
- Alice could only wield it due to Destin being in danger and they were the only ones that could do something about it.
- He then sees a Power Limiter on it and asks Red Mage Marion to remove it.
- Parodied:
- If anyone else pulls Adnexa out of its sheath it will wail and sob for Destin, not stopping until it's in his hands.
- There's a whole legal system focusing on the use of exclusive weapons.
- Averted: Anyone in the world who can wield a sword can wield Adnexa.
- Enforced: "It would be too easy if anyone can wield Adnexa with its Absurdly Sharp Blade, let's just lock it to The Hero's use. That way the other members can still shine with their own skills."
- Lampshaded:Destin: "Before we get started, I should mention my sword is a bit... moody with strangers, so don't expect a weapon change with me."
- Invoked: Destin got a spell that binds him to the sword so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands.
- Exploited: General Butch tries to make Destin join their side by tricking him into killing innocents with Adnexa.
- Defied: Adnexa isn't exclusive to just a few people, the blacksmith that made it made sure.
