Basic Trope: A long list of things.

  • Straight: Alice shows her boyfriend Bob the list of things she would like for her birthday. She shows the list, and it goes from her house all the way to the other street.
  • Exaggerated:
    • The list ends at another country.
    • The list is long enough to circumnavigate the world.
  • Downplayed: The list is a regular piece of paper, with a relatively lower number of things, though it still is too much for Bob to buy it all.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: The list is extremely short. She wants one single thing, and it is listed in a small piece of paper.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: As new things occur to Alice, she writes them down.
  • Parodied: The list goes all over the Earth, to the point it becomes a giant ball of paper.
  • Averted: The list is a normal length, or there is no list at all.
  • Enforced: The writers want to show Alice's exaggerated indecision and want for presents.
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, how am I supposed to buy this ALL? I'll need to walk all over the street just to know it all!"
  • Invoked: Alice wrote down things she wanted as they occurred to her, knowing she would likely forget them.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice can't get a long piece of paper to list everything, so she just tells Bob what gift she wants.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: Bob does buy everything, and he runs out of money.
  • Reconstructed: He has enough money to buy what Alice wants.
