Basic Trope: A level is a copy of another level, except with the geometry and/or path reversed.
- Straight: In Example Racing Game, one of the courses is Troperia Circuit backwards.
- Exaggerated: In addition, we have Mirrored Troperia Circuit, Upside-Down Troperia Circuit, Mirrored Upside-Down Troperia Circuit, etc...
- Downplayed:
- Example Racing Game features Troperia Circuit. Example Racing Game II features Backwards Troperia Circuit as a Nostalgia Level, but excludes the original.
- Troperia Circuit in Reverse has a few other changes in addition to being reversed.
- Justified:
- The owner of Troperia Circuit discovered that it also works well backwards.
- Troperia Circuit was a floating circuit, Upside-Down Troperia Circuit is from after it crashed to earth.
- Inverted:
- Subverted:
- A course is named "Backwards Troperia Circuit". It turns out to be a unique course with a Non-Indicative Name.
- The main characters visit a circuit that's just a mirrored copy of Troperia Circuit. They leave without actually racing on it.
- Double Subverted:
- Then one of the bonus tracks turns out to be a mirrored version of Backwards Troperia Circuit.
- Later, they have to return to the mirrored copy of Troperia Circuit and race there.
- Parodied:
- One course is named "Report Siht's Totally Original Course". It's a shoddy, mirrored copy of Troperia Circuit.
- Even though Troperia Circuit is perfectly symmetrical, there's both a Mirrored Troperia Circuit and a Reverse Troperia Circuit.
- A course is named "Backwards Troperia Circuit". There is no normal Troperia Circuit anywhere in the Example Racing Game series.
- Troperia Circuit is full of ramps, so the backwards version is impossible to complete.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Averted: All of the courses have unique geometry.
- Enforced:
- The development team ran out of time to develop unique geometry for every course.
- The development team needed to keep file sizes down.
- Lampshaded: "Hey, isn't this circuit suspiciously similar to Troperia Circuit? Looks like they copied it and mirrored it..."
- Invoked: The in-universe creators of Troperia Circuit specifically designed it so that it offers different challenges depending on which direction you drive.
- Exploited:
- Defied: The main characters visit a circuit, but refuse to race on it when they discover that it's just a mirrored version of Troperia Circuit.
- Discussed:
- Conversed:
- Deconstructed:
- As Troperia Circuit really wasn't designed for that kind of thing, several drivers get themselves injured trying to drive it backwards.
- Troperia Circuit is Unintentionally Unwinnable because there are jumps and other obstacles that can only be performed in the correct direction.
- Reconstructed:
- The characters learn their lesson and make sure it's safe before the next time they drive a circuit backwards.
- The course has some elements modified compared to its obverse version so that it's possible to complete.
