Basic Trope: The heroes use the janitor's disguise to get into the Big Bad's Lair.

  • Straight: The hero, Bob, knocks out a janitor, locks him in the locker, and steals his uniform to get past Emperor Evulz's security.
  • Exaggerated: Bob does this to every villain he faces.
  • Downplayed: Bob has a janitor's outfit at home, so he wears that and pretends to work there.
  • Justified: Bob, being a janitor himself, knows precisely what to do to get to the dirty secrets.
  • Inverted: Emperor Evulz's actual janitor decides to take advantage of his unquestioned access to everywhere to score a point for his boss.
  • Subverted: One of the guards opens the locker the unconscious janitor is locked in and alerts his boss.
  • Double Subverted: Bob gets out before the guards line up all the janitors.
  • Parodied: Bob only takes the hat from the janitor. The guards fall for it.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob steals a Janitor's uniform, but the guard finds out from the unconscious janitor, then Bob escapes, but the Janitor hypothesizes that, because the Janitor that stole his uniform isn't there, that he's escaped already, and thus security heightens as a result.
  • Averted: Bob uses traditional methods.
  • Enforced: "We need to show that Bob is a Bunny-Ears Lawyer! But how?" "I know! Let's make him knock out the janitor and steal his uniform!"
  • Lampshaded: "Seriously, nobody's tried this yet?"
  • Invoked: The sign on Emperor Evulz's main room says "Authorised Personnel and Custodians only," giving Bob the idea.
  • Exploited: Evulz makes the janitor uniforms hard to steal, knowing that Bob will try to steal the uniforms.
  • Defied: Emperor Evulz makes sure that the Janitor's outfits aren't easily stolen without Cutting the Knot.
  • Discussed: "So how are we going to get in there?" "Wait till the Janitor comes out to sweep the porch and steal his uniform?"
  • Conversed: "Okay, I work as a janitor, that uniform is harder to dress up in than it looks!"
