Basic Trope: An item needed to escape from Prison is concealed inside of a cake, a loaf of bread, etc.

  • Straight: Alice goes to see Bob in prison. She brings a cake that has a hacksaw concealed inside of it, which he later uses to escape.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice sends her hacksaw cake to Bob in the mail.
    • Alice bakes cakes with hacksaws for all the inmates.
    • Alice sends Bob a chainsaw... in a cupcake.
    • Alice manages to bake an entire arsenal into the cake.
  • Downplayed: Alice bakes a bobby pin into a cupcake, so Bob can use it to pick locks.
  • Justified: Alice wants to help Bob escape, but knows she can't give him the appropriate Noodle Implements openly.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob sends Alice a cake with a Sinister Shiv inside from prison, either because (for whatever reason(s)) she needs one, or as a threat to her.
    • Alice manages to give Bob an unconcealed gun while he's in prison, inside of which she hid a churro.
  • Subverted: Bob searches the cake, but there's nothing inside
  • Double Subverted: Then Bob smells the frosting and notices it is plastic explosives.
  • Parodied:
    • The cake has an obvious hacksaw sticking out of it, and the guards don't even bat an eye!
    • Bob injures himself on the cake.
    • The guards confiscate the cake to enjoy for themselves in the breakroom, and use the hacksaw they've pulled out to cut the cake.
    • Bob pulls out a string of scarves, a deck of cards, and a live rabbit before pulling out the hacksaw.
    • Alice winds up jailed herself for bringing the cake.
    • Alice brings a fully-assembled wedding cake, complete with Cake Toppers. No one blinks.
    • Alice runs a bakery, or visits one on the way to see Bob, that specializes in these sort of cakes.
    • Alice brings the cake in only to find out Bob has already escaped.
    • Alice goes through the trouble of baking a cake with a hacksaw in it and brings it to the prison... just as Bob's being released, making the entire charade pointless.
    • Bob is held in a Cardboard Prison so ridiculously easy to break out of that the hacksaw wasn't even needed.
    • Alice goes through the trouble of making Bob a birthday cake containing a hacksaw. Instead of using the hacksaw, Bob uses the box it was carried in to escape.
    • Bob misinterprets Alice's gesture as a simple act of kindness and immediately starts cutting pieces to offer the guards and other inmates, accidentally exposing the charade or leaving Alice to quickly find a way to keep it from being noticed.
    • Bob fails to recognize that Alice is trying to break him out and instead starts berating Alice for "accidentally" leaving sharp objects in food and endangering those who are going to eat it.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Alice doesn't bring anything with her to the prison or mail him anything out of the ordinary.
    • Alice doesn't visit Bob in prison, and doesn't send him anything in the mail, either.
    • Bob isn't in prison.
  • Enforced: "Alice is Bob's best friend, so it would be unusual if she didn't do anything to help him break out."
  • Lampshaded: "Hi, Honey! I brought you something that should cheer you up!"
  • Invoked: The guards made it as part of a plot to further incriminate Bob, and justify prolonged incarceration.
  • Exploited: Bob's cellmate blackmails his way into the escape plot.
  • Defied:
    • Alice knows that the cake will be confiscated, and that doing this could get her in trouble, so she doesn't send Bob a cake with a hacksaw.
    • The prison or jail doesn't allow inmates to receive gifts. If they do, all gifts are passed through radiographic inspection.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
