Playing With / Immune to Slapstick

Go To

Basic Trope: There's something slapsticky going on, but one character never invokes or falls victim to it.

  • Straight: When the main characters are eating at a restaurant and a Food Fight starts up, Alice never throws any food, nor does any hit her.
  • Exaggerated: The whole characters, including the sadistic Spree Killer and The Big Bad, join the Food Fight, except for Alice who is very uninvolved that she finishes reading an entire book without receiving a single hit or getting distracting by the Funny Background Event.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice doesn't do any real food fighting or get hit, but she does chuck a pea at Bob.
    • Alice only gets a tiny drop of ketchup on her face.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is very polite. As such, she would never throw food at anyone and everyone tries to avoid hitting her because they'd feel guilty for hitting the politest person in their group.
    • Alice is an Aloof Ally and has no time to join her friends in their childish escapades or is too mature for them.
  • Inverted:
    • The only person who gets hit is Alice.
    • Alice does all the throwing.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice then throws a chocolate cake at Bob.
    • Bob hits Alice with a chocolate cake, in return.
  • Double Subverted:
    • She dropped it by accident.
    • He misses.
  • Parodied: The other characters spend all day trying to get something slapsticky to happen to Alice but to no avail.
  • Averted: Alice throws as much food and gets hit as much as everyone else.
  • Zigzagged:
    • Alice considers throwing several items but eventually goes against it.
    • Alice almost gets hit several times.
    • Alice was immune to slapstick prior to her Character Development, but after she decides to be less serious, she's no longer immune to them.
  • Lampshaded: "Even Alice, the Cold Sniper, likes to join and invoke slapstick events in her free time, huh."
  • Enforced: The creators try to set up Alice as having been Born Lucky, while throwing in a joke.
  • Invoked: Alice decides she won't hit anyone during the food fight, and everybody else tries to avoid hitting her.
  • Exploited: Alice uses her immunity to keep her food safe and get satiated eating it, not get dirty and not get anyone else dirty either.
  • Defied:
  • Discussed/Conversed (depending on who's saying it): "What the-! The stupid, Cloud Cuckoolander, Plucky Comic Relief Alice is immune from slapstick?? What kind of show is this?!"
  • Implied: When writing his diary, Bob mentions how when they had a food fight once at school, the poker-faced Alice stood in the corners and came out perfectly clean.
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Alice's immunity to slapstick is a Running Gag.
  • Played for Drama: A villain is immune to slapstick, making the villain harder to defeat.
