Basic Trope: Someone ignores something that they don't want to hear by singing to drown out the sound, often by blocking their ears and singing, "La-la-la".

  • Straight: Bob is about to tell Alice how the most recent episode of Show Within a Show ends, but Alice doesn't want to hear it, so she plugs her ears and sings, "La-la-la, I'm not listening!"
  • Exaggerated:
    • Not only is Bob trying to tell Alice a spoiler, but Claire is trying to tell her some squicky things, David is trying to call Alice out, etc.—Alice has to sing for so much, it becomes an Overly Long Gag.
    • Alice sings the lyrics of every song she knows just so nobody will tell her anything she doesn't want to hear.
  • Downplayed: Alice and Bob were already having a legitimate conversation about the show. She only starts singing, "La-la-la" when Bob tries to bring up a spoiler for an episode she hasn't seen yet.
  • Justified: Alice is trying to show that she doesn't want to hear what she's listening to.
  • Inverted: Bob is singing, and to try to drown out the sound, Alice starts telling him spoilers.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied:
    • Alice manages to rattle off all the lyrics to "We Didn't Start the Fire" perfectly while trying to ignore Bob—and he continues telling her things she doesn't want to hear because he's impressed that she's memorized the whole song.
    • Alice is an extremely Dreadful Musician. Emily joins in and starts singing over Alice so as to not hear her singing.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice doesn't ignore things by singing over them.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied:
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
