Basic Trope Description: A romanticized depiction of the French capital Paris.

  • Straight: Paris is a large, clean and beautiful city full of stunning architecture, awesome art, flowery parks, fine restaurants and always happy, attractive and utterly romantic inhabitants and tourists.
  • Exaggerated: Paris is the ultimate Shining City with beautiful golden architecture, flourishing nature and overflowing with Food Porn where stunningly attractive people who all get along well with each other feel no other emotion than happiness - simply because there is no chance for negative emotions.
  • Downplayed: Paris has its dirty corners, but is still very beautiful and romantic - more in a sense of Unkempt Beauty.
  • Justified: Paris is Heaven in The 'Verse.
  • Inverted: Paris is an utterly Wretched Hive straight out of the Dung Ages that is literally nice to nobody.
  • Subverted: When Alice and Bob, two tourists, leave the Gare du Nord, they step into a stunningly beautiful city that sends a shiver of pleasure down their spines. Then they are promptly mugged.
  • Double Subverted: The mugger, Charles, just runs around the block with his loot once and gives it back to them afterwards. He was only pulling a harmless prank.
  • Enforced: The author wants to clarify that Paris is a good place for the characters to live.
  • Averted: Paris is portrayed in a realistic manner - neither romanticized nor cynical.
  • Parodied: Only thinking of Paris has the magical power of reuniting couples in a relationship crisis.
  • Zig-Zagged: The depiction differs on the quarter of Paris: Some are romanticized, some realistic, some nearly slumlike.
  • Invoked: The city is given a large makeover by magic to be the utter beacon of beauty and romance.
  • Exploited: Knowing well about the powers attributed to Paris in regards of romance, Alice and Bob travel there to fix their relationship.
  • Defied: In a Dystopia, cataclysms, poverty and neglect led to Paris ending up in disaster, with literally all beauty having disappeared.
  • Lampshaded: "Whoa, Paris is really as beautiful as in the media!"
  • Discussed: Alice, Bob and Denise talk about their Paris experiences and all agree that the city is in different ways beautiful and romantic.
  • Conversed: Parisian viewer: "I would give up anything to live in this place."
  • Deconstructed: Alice and Bob see more and more how all that beauty is only the surface. When you dig deeper, you will find the same problems as in any modern big city in Paris.
  • Reconstructed: Nevertheless, even the poor and downtrodden wouldn't live and work anywhere else than in Paris, since here, they at least have a nice life with beautiful surroundings and are with good, attractive other people.
  • Played For Laughs: Wacky, funny stuff is just everyday life here, and nobody takes anything too serious.
  • Played For Drama: Parisians aren't Conditioned to Accept Horror at all, and so they all are on the streets and ready to take up arms for a good cause very fast.
  • Played For Horror: Nothing is what it seems, but something much worse. And everyone else is a Stepford Smiler.
