Basic Trope: In a game that has multiple romance options, there is a same-sex love interest.

  • Straight: In the romance subplot of Troper City, Bob can choose to go on a date with Alice, Charlotte (both women), or Dan (a man).
  • Exaggerated: Alice's and Charlotte's romances don't get much further than a few dates, but Dan's is an entire Romance Arc and the two of them appear together in the sequel, making him the canon love interest.
  • Logical Extreme: Dan is the only romance option because everyone's trying to hook Bob and Dan up.
  • Downplayed: Dan's route is a friendship route.
  • Justified: Bob is bisexual.
  • Inverted:
    • You can choose to date Alice, Charlotte and Elaine (all female), but beforehand, you can choose to play as straight man Bob or lesbian Betty.
    • Bob can choose between Alex, Charlie, Daniel - and Charlie is a Sweet Polly Oliver.
  • Subverted: Dan is a woman named Danielle in disguise.
  • Double Subverted: That was a joke; Dan really is who he says he is.
  • Parodied: Bob is straight, he's just "dating" Dan to help him cheat on his taxes.
  • Unparodied: ...but Bob ends up falling in love with Dan because the ploy turns him on.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob tries to date Alice, Charlotte and Dan at the same time, but finds out that Alice and Charlotte are lesbians and Dan just wanted a threesome with them, thus leaving Bob without a romance.
  • Averted: There are no romance options, and if there are all of them are opposite-sex.
  • Enforced: The creators want to reel in the LGBT Fanbase.
  • Lampshaded:
Dan: I didn't think you'd choose me when Alice and Charlotte were in the picture.
  • Invoked: Bob is questioning his sexuality, so he tries to date Alice, Charlotte and Dan.
  • Exploited: Bob has the hots for Dan and intentionally aims for his affection.
  • Defied: Bob and Dan are straight and refuse to hook up with one another.
  • Discussed:
Ethan: So who are your options, Bob?
Bob: Alice, Charlotte, and Dan have all asked me out...
Ethan: Oh, Dan, huh? There's often at least one gay option in romance games...
  • Conversed: "Of course Troper City gives you a male option!"
  • Implied: Bob's openly bisexual and dates Alice, and she gossips during a date that Dan has been looking for a man.
  • Deconstructed: Dan has a history of being a Disposable Sex Worker for men, and became Camp Gay because of it, despite being straight. When Bob tries to hook up with Dan, the "relationship" turns sour and Dan almost commits suicide.
    • The difficulties of being a sexual minority are highlighted as aside from sexuality Bob and Daniel are extremely incompatible with nothing but orientation in common but see each other as their only option.
  • Reconstructed: Dan is openly homophobic, but obviously hiding in the closet, and Bob helps him come to terms with his sexuality.
  • Played For Laughs: Dan's is overly camp and his Romance Arc is all about showing Alice and Charlotte how much fun being gay is.
  • Played For Drama: Dan is frustrated with his sexuality and Bob has to help him come to terms with it.
  • Untwist: You can only date Alice and Charlotte initially until either mention they ended up turning Dan gay.
