Playing With / Everything Is an Instrument

Basic Trope: An non-musical object is used like a musical instrument:

  • Straight: Bob, a famous rock musician is known for using chainsaw and rifles in his songs.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob's "rock" albums are all made of unusual instruments - chainsaws in place of guitars, rubbish bins and cannons in place of drums and hairdryers in place of vocals.
    • A Black Metal band uses tons of chainsaw and Harsh Noise-inspired white noise sounds to drown out guitar riffs to make the already harsh sound even more grim.
  • Logical Extreme: Bob uses chainsaws for every type of the music components in his albums.
  • Downplayed: The chainsaw was used only in one of Bob's songs throught his entire career.
  • Justified:
    • Bob dreams to become an Avant-Garde Music performer.
    • Bob wanted to join an Avant-Garde Metal band and chose a chainsaw to play music.
    • Bob's song is either about being a lumberjack or about the power of chainsaws.
  • Subverted: Bob's guitar tone on his Swedish Death Metal band sounds like a chainsaw, but they're done with regular guitars.
  • Double Subverted: ...then he added actual chainsaws to make the sound harsher.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice, an Avant-Garde Music performer known for using printers in her songs, starts putting out regular Pop music in efforts to break mainstream.
    • The Death Of Day, an Avant-Garde Metal band known for using chainsaws, started making albums in a more commercial rock style without chainsaws.
  • Parodied: A Hentai girl named Ayumi, who is fully naked, masturbates and moans loudly at the microphone to make everyone hear her moans while her Thrash Metal band plays simultaneously at the concert, much to the real vocalist's and audience's confusion... and the metalheads there found the band's new "instrument" amusing and hilarious and moshed to Ayumi's moaning and masturbation instead of thrash metal itself, leading to a creation of a very unusual metal genre - Hentai Thrash Metal, much to the rest of thrash metal scene's bewilderment.
  • Averted: Bob uses guitars in his rock songs, as many rock musicians do.
  • Defied: Bob threw out his chainsaw after trying it out to see if it'd make a good sound for his albums.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob releases one regular Hardcore Punk album, one using floppotron in place of guitars each time.
  • Enforced: "I'm bored of playing standard musical instruments! Let's take something that's not an instrument and play it as if it were one."
  • Lampshaded: "Why would we use chainsaws for music?! We'll get hurt for this!"
  • Discussed: "Wow, this chainsaw makes a good tone for our next album."
  • Conversed: "Bob's idea of using chainsaws in his songs was a daring idea."
  • Invoked: "I have an idea, why not use something that's not usually played as a musical instrument... like a chainsaw for example?"
  • Exploited: Bob used chainsaws in his rock songs in order to comply with his label's requests.
  • Played for Laughs: A Hair Metal band uses a chainsaw instead of guitars as solos, but it constantly malfunctions.
  • Played for Drama: Bob puts chainsaws in his Doom Metal songs to give a darker sound.
  • Played for Horror: Bob uses chainsaws in his Heavy Metal music to give the listeners a scare.
  • Implied: Bob decided to use chainsaws in his rock songs and left. Then we hear chainsaw noises.
  • Unparodied: A guitarist uses his guitar to make cat noises during a Speed Metal concert, but then switched to a chainsaw.
  • Untwisted: Bob's rock songs don't use chainsaws... until his last song at the end.
  • Deconstructed: Bob attempts to play chainsaws in his songs, but he ended up cutting his own fingers in the process and now he couldn't play his guitars, as a result of ignoring the safety of operating chainsaws.
  • Reconstructed: ...but he still used chainsaws using artificial fingers.

Grab whatever you like and start making music with it. And yes, even Hentai is a musical instrument if you try enough.
