Basic Trope: A character sits on a chair in the opposite direction to it.

  • Straight: Alice sits on a chair backwards.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice always sits on chairs like this.
    • Everyone sits like this.
    • Queen Alice sits on her throne backwards.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice is briefly shown sitting on a chair backwards in the background. She sits normally all other times.
    • Alice sits on a chair backwards, but at an oblique angle.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is naked and sitting this way to cover her breasts and privates until someone brings her clothes.
    • Alice needs to talk to someone standing behind her, and the chair is heavy and can't easily be turned.
    • Alice is weird.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice sits in a chair normally.
    • A chair sits on Alice backwards.
  • Subverted: Alice approaches a chair turned backwards and it looks like she's about sit this way. She turns it around and sits forwards instead.
  • Double Subverted: Alice approaches a chair turned backwards. She turns it around and it looks like she's about to sit forwards, but then she sits backwards facing the opposite direction instead.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice sits backwards on a spinning swivel chair.
    • Alice sits on a stool backwards.
  • Averted: Nobody sits down.
  • Defied: The owner of Alice's favorite restaurant replaces all the chairs with stools so nobody can sit like this.
  • Zig-Zagged: Sometimes Alice sits like this, and sometimes she sits normally.

    • One of the chair props on The Alice and Bob Show was badly stained down the front minutes before shooting time, and it can't be replaced. The director has Alice's actress sit this way so the stain isn't visible.

  • Implied: We see a group of people walking away from a circle of folding chairs. One of them is facing the opposite direction from the rest.
  • Unparodied: Emperor Evulz makes Alice sit backwards in a spinning swivel chair for an extended period of time as a form of Cold-Blooded Torture.
  • Untwisted: Neat Freak Alice approaches a chair turned backwards. It looks like she's about to turn it around and sit normally, but she sits backwards anyway.
