Basic Trope: Divine figures raping mortals isn't taken as seriously as normal rape
- Straight: Zeus enters Phoebe's home and rapes her, getting her pregnant. Everyone is dismissive at best about the incident.
- Exaggerated:
- Phoebe is raped and her husband divorces her for "Choosing" a god over him. Her father beats her for being such a whore. Her entire town refuses to acknowledge what happened to her. Hera is furious at Phoebe for "Seducing" her husband and banishes her to the 10th circle of hell.
- Zeus has raped every female creature on Earth and it's not only ignored, but treated as a blessing.
- Downplayed:
- Zeus sexually harasses Phoebe and nobody really touches on it.
- Zeus rapes Phoebe and people as well as the gods do brand him a rapist. But it’s given as much attention as a child stealing a few pencils in class.
- Zeus doesn’t outright, rape Phoebe, but the power imbalance and her demeanor are such that her consent is highly questionable, which unfortunately goes unaddressed.
- Justified:
- Phoebe was an evil person and the characters see this as karma
- Zeus threatened everyone who showed sympathy toward Phoebe
- Zeus made everyone forget about the incident.
- He's a god, he can do whatever he wants. What are you going to do, stop him?
- Inverted:
- Phoebe rapes Zeus and she is congratulated for being able to fuck a god.
- Basil attempts to rape Hera, but due to her viewing sexuality and sexual entitlement differently than any mortal would, she allows him to continue, much to his surprise.
- All humans who heard about Zeus raping Phoebe now hate him, all the other gods think lowly of him for doing so.
- Subverted: Phoebe expects to not be given sympathy after being raped by Zeus, but everyone is actually supportive of her.
- Double Subverted: ... then they are all smitten. Nobody mentions her rape again.
- Parodied: Deity-ordained Black Comedy Rape
- Zig-Zagged: The author ends up having a Lost Aesop about whether divine rape is okay or not.
- Averted: No divine being rapes a mortal in the story.
- Enforced: The author is adapting an old work with Values Dissonance about the issue, and can't get rid of the rape without altering the story.
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: The author wanted to use a Zeus as a symbol for people in positions of power abusing and manipulating the defenseless.
- Exploited: Zeus is a god who does whatever he wants because no one is able to even stop him.
- Defied: Zeus decides to romance any woman he finds attractive to gain her consent. If nothing else it makes things easier.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: While Zeus and the other gods are no worse for wear, Phoebe begins to go bleeding-mad after the experience of being pounced on by an animal and at the same time having a huge old guy from the clouds descend on her in particular and rape her while sparking lightning everywhere.
- Played for Laughs: A Black Comedy Rape in which the perpetrator is god.
- Reconstructed: While her sanity is long gone, Phoebe is able to cope after a decade or two and somehow convinced Hera that she in fact did not seduce Zeus.
- Played for Horror: After being pinned down by a deer and getting beaten down by a giant man in the clouds during a violent thunderstorm, mocked by everyone for having for having unreasonable standards, and nearly sent to hell by a jealous Hera, Phoebe is reduced to a laughing madwoman.
