- Downplayed: Bob mentions watching the series in his spare time, and will talk about it if asked, but not a lot of attention is drawn to it otherwise.

- Bob has nothing better to do during the day since he lost his job.
- Alice and Bob are watching together.
- Bob's a guy who just happens to like soap operas.
- The soap-opera features some Fanservice clearly aimed at men, as a way to attract said Periphery Demographic. So, the sexy bits caught Bob's attention, but he started following it for the surprisingly intriguing plot.
- Bob is such a hardcore TV addict he'll watch anything that's on.
- Inverted: Alice watches a football game

- Bob quickly changes the channel to football when he hears Alice's footsteps.
- Bob is watching a popular Prime Time Soap.
- Double Subverted:
- But as soon as she's gone, he's back to his soap opera.
- Said Prime Time Soap is primarily geared towards women, and the other guys make fun of Bob for it (or he worries that they will and so he keeps his interest in it a secret.)
- Parodied: Bob is watching with every bathrobe-clad, curler-wearing housewife in town...and has a bathrobe and curlers too.
