Basic Trope: A character in a game designed to help out the player character, or a Narrator in a game, keeps on telling you to hurry up when the game (or at least that part of the game) doesn't have a time limit.

  • Straight: One level of Super Action Force requires the player to collect some items ready so that Alice, the player character, can fight the Dark Knight in the next level. The player can take as much time as they need, however, Bob, Alice's sidekick, keeps saying, "Hurry up, Alice! We need to gather up those items quickly!" and variations thereof approximately every thirty seconds.
  • Exaggerated: In addition to telling Alice to hurry up, Bob is holding a big sign with "HURRY UP" written on it and every so often, he will shout the demands to hurry as opposed to simply stating them.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob is seen looking impatient but doesn't say anything out loud.
    • Bob says, "Did you forget what to do? Gather up the items." every five minutes.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Bob tells Alice to take her time, but there's a time limit.
  • Subverted:
    • While the game doesn't give a Game Over for it you do get bonuses from actually hurrying up.
    • If you wait too long after the warnings, an actual timer starts.
  • Double Subverted:
    • However the bonuses are thoroughly redundant in the first place.
    • The timer is just an intimidation tactic, you lose nothing by running out of time.
  • Parodied: Bob hurries Alice to do utterly mundane and non-urgent tasks like organizing her sock drawer.
  • Zigzagged: On the level about collecting items, Bob sometimes hurries Alice but sometimes not. Additionally, there is sometimes danger from waiting, but sometimes not, and Bob's "hurry up"s don't always coincide with the presence of danger.
  • Averted:
    • Bob stays silent.
    • There is a time limit.
  • Enforced: "We need to create a sense of urgency so that the player won't lollygag but having a time limit wouldn't make sense in-universe and creating danger solely to hurry them up seems too extreme."
  • Lampshaded:
Bob: "Hurry up and collect the items, Alice!"
Alice: "Why? We aren't in any danger."
  • Invoked: "I'm bored, she's taking too long. Better hurry her up."
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: "Just take your time. After all, we aren't in danger."
  • Discussed:
  • Conversed: "Why is this game character hurrying me when there's no time limit?"
  • Implied:
  • Deconstructed: By the time Alice finishes her mission quick enough, Bob betrays Alice on the spot and berates her for taking too long to finish her mission. Alice is shocked by this revelation.
  • Reconstructed: Alice kills the now-treacherous Bob and tells him "Now hurry up and keep these items for yourself...in hell!" before resuming her main mission. "And I can do this task all day..."
  • Played for Laughs: Bob tells Alice to hurry up in creative ways.
Bob: "Two, four, six, eight. Come on, Alice, don't you wait."
  • Played for Drama:
