Go To

Basic Trope: China is the dominant world power 20 Minutes into the Future.

  • Straight: It's the year 2035. Chinese corporations dominated the global business world, and every modern technology throughout the world had converged and perfected in China.
  • Exaggerated:
    • China had literally conquered the world as early as the Han Dynasty. And then it collapsed and all the subsequent dynasties are ruled by Chinese ever since.
    • The foreign powers forced China to open its market. China's products and cultural treasures proceeded to flood the global trade to the point that everything is made in China.
    • China had successfully conquered the world after they were done with Taiwan and now everyone lives under direct rule of CCP.
  • Downplayed:
    • China is the world's manufacturer and leading exporter, but is virtually unheard of otherwise.
    • China nominally took over but wound up assimilating many international influnces.
  • Justified: China is the country that was least affected by the world war that devastated the rest of the world, allowing China to buy the world diplomacy and military to rebuild nations that submitted to China's hegemony while subduing those that resisted.
  • Inverted: China was split into multiple provinces, each ruled by a foreign power throughout the world.
    • China becomes the low point of development in the future and synonymous with backwards and needs help.
  • Subverted: China appears to be rising, but then their government was overthrown due to a nationwide revolution, disintegrating China into multiple states in the process.
  • Double Subverted: But China reunites again, this time with a more robust economics and military might than ever before.
  • Parodied:
    • Most of the buildings and products sold in every capital city in the world have an engraved label that reads "中国制造" (Made in China).
    • China have an indigenous fleet of Spy Satellite throughout the world, complete with source code that is written entirely in Chinese.
    • An advertisement from China promises instant construction of Great Walls and high-speed rails in exchange for the ownership of lands they were built on.
  • Zigzagged: China had conquered the world once... but then abandons its hegemony due to infighting. But its culture remains practiced throughout the world... except it had diverged too far way from their tradition. And China returns to reunites the world before it collapsed again and the whole world is dragged into China's reunification cycle.
  • Averted: China has a powerful military, economical, technological and cultural influence capable of conquering the world... but is content to keep to their own borders.
  • Enforced:
    • The rapid rise of China have spawned a whole genre of film and advertisements where China is either a Greater-Scope Paragon or has taken over their country, if not the world.
    • The work is intended as an allegorical reflection of issues within Chinese society applied to localed the audience would be more familiar with to de-exoticify it.
  • Lampshaded: "Those that rules the Central Kingdom, rules the world, for everything you sell, all your customers and your boss, comes from there."
  • Invoked: The Chinese rulers have decided that ruling China alone isn't enough for their grand plan, and so geared China's long-term plan to Take Over the World.
  • Exploited: China's rapid expansion have attracted several Quislings and Les Collaborateurs who promises political obedience to China in exchange for grandiose infrastructure, military power and an Egopolis.
  • Defied: China conquered the world, but its homeland was razed by the nuclear war, rendering it uninhabitable for the next ten thousand years.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: The international standards of units are based from Chinese measurements and follows Chinese calender and holidays and almost everyone from high school onwards are fluent in Chinese. Oh, and China's achievements are largely embellished while less savory events are conspicuously absent during China's era of hegemony. Also the political map of the world shows China owning Taiwan, Outer Mongolia and Outer Manchuria
  • Deconstructed: Several of China's old enemies, including the US, Japan, and India, hate living under authoritarian Chinese rule and several bloody wars ensue with horrendous atrocities on both sides.
  • Reconstructed:
    • China has reformed into a democracy and their technology improves everyone's lives.
    • The scenario is actually Taiwan takes over the world instead of the mainland, and everyone is basically fine with it.
  • Played for Laughs: China's rule is maintained soley through the Skewed Priorities of the rest of the world.
  • Played for Drama: China's worst flaws are forcibly imposed upon other nations. They have become so embedded it is questionable if independence would even help.
