Basic Trope: The Big Bad will keep coming back after being killed.

  • Straight: Evulz the Big Bad keeps coming back to life.
  • Exaggerated: Evulz comes back to fight the heroes again every weekend.
  • Downplayed:
    • Evulz comes back, but due to a botched resurrection, he Came Back Wrong.
    • Evulz comes back as a chaotic beast that has his powers but none of his intellect.
    • Evulz’ new form is so weak and frail, the world has nothing to fear from him.
    • Some other villain rises to power directly after Evulz’ death. There will always be evil; it just wouldn’t come in the form of a return of Evulz.
  • Justified:
    • Evulz is worshipped by those who desire chaos in the world, and they will always be eager to bring him back.
    • Evulz is sustained by the darkness in people’s hearts, and since there will always be darkness in people’s hearts, Evulz is going to keep coming back.
    • Evulz is more aspects of reality than a conscious entity. Even if he’s gone, there will always be someone committing atrocities in his place despite his absence, because free will exists meaning anyone can always choose do evil regardless of whether their intentions are bad or good.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Evulz gives his speech on how he will never die, but then the heroes kill him so badly, he can’t possibly resurrect.
    • Evulz tries to come back, but for one reason or another, he can’t.
  • Double-Subverted:
  • Parodied: Evulz is finally defeated by the heroes, and the world returns to the Sugar Bowl it once was... until someone so much as pokes the poodle in which Evulz returns in full force.
  • Zig-Zagged: Evulz reincarnates as the new villain, Veluz.
  • Averted: Evulz is killed by the heroes and is dead for good.
  • Lampshaded: “A good villain rarely stays down.”
  • Invoked: Evulz or one of his servants explain that Evulz will never truly die.
  • Exploited: Alice the hero, worried that she will be out of a job if Evulz dies, makes sure he always comes back so she may always be needed.
  • Defied:
    • The heroes are aware Evulz may try to return, so they take measures to make sure he stays dead.
    • Evulz tries to come back after dying but is Dragged Off to Hell by the souls of those he killed.
    • Death himself stops Evulz from resurrecting.
  • Conversed: “Wait, I thought the legendary hero killed Evulz?” “Sadly, there are ways for evil to endure, even after death.”
  • Implied: A few characters mention how Evulz has returned from the dead before and might do so again.
