Basic Trope: A work has a separate continuity mutually-exclusive of the main one.

  • Straight: The Trope Show starring Alice and Bob as office workers in Los Angeles has a separate continuity mutually-exclusive of the main one with Alice, Bob and Jane as security guards in New York.
  • Exaggerated: The Trope Show spawned several alternate continuity spinoffs that have no connection aside from Alice and Bob are in different jobs.
  • Downplayed: The Trope Show exists as a Show Within a Show with the same basic premise, except with Charlie and Dana as expies of Alice and Bob
  • Justified:
    • The creator wants to create a work independent of the main one for a What If? scenario.
    • Events that happen in the main work can't happen in the alternate world due to genre differences.
    • The work is Darker and Edgier and in a different location.
  • Subverted: A new series starts out with Alice and Bob apparently meeting each other for the first time in an entirely different situation, only for it to turn out that they were just pretending and they're still the same Alice and Bob from the original series.
  • Double Subverted: ...Except that scene was All Just a Dream of the real Alice and Bob of this series, who actually are in the other situation.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: It's part of the main continuity.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: All of these spinoffs are part of a interdimensional epic that happens to center on various incarnations of the same two people. Cue Crisis Crossover.
