Basic Trope: A character is afraid of doctors.
- Straight: Alice is afraid of doctors, and avoids visiting them even when she is deadly sick.
- Exaggerated: Alice runs away screaming at the mere sight of a hospital.
- Downplayed:
- Alice fears only one type of doctor, such as dentists.
- Alice isn't exactly afraid of doctors, but she is rather wary of them and does not believe in medicine.
- Alice can handle herself at the doctor's office, but she comes off as shy and timid.
- Justified:
- Medical procedures can be painful or otherwise unpleasant, so it's understandable why people are afraid of them.
- Alice is Afraid of Blood or needles..
- Alice was traumatized by a malevolent or incompetent doctor (malpractice, violation, or otherwise) and suffers flashbacks every time she visits one.
- Alice Hates Being Touched.
- A family member or close friend of Alice's died under circumstances where Alice suspects (correctly or otherwise) that a visit to a doctor office was the cause.
- Alice has some physiological attribute (enhancement, DNA, etc) that she's worried a doctor would find out.
- Inverted:
- Alice actually loves doctors, stalking them at every turn.
- Alice is a doctor who is afraid of her patients.
- Alice is a patient, and all the doctors fear her.
- Parodied:
- Alice is afraid of anyone with a doctorate degree, regardless if they work in the health industry or not.
- Alice runs away screaming from a theater. She was watching Doctor Strange.
- Deconstructed: Alice is too afraid to visit a doctor when she's clearly ill, and her condition deteriorates.
- Played for Drama: Alice is afraid of doctors, but doesn't know why. She eventually sees a therapist who unlocks her repressed memories of medical malpractice.
