Basic Trope: Someone begrudgingly admits something was funny, especially if the joke was made at their expense.

  • Straight: Danny's friend, Charlotte, insults him jokingly. Danny is somewhat offended, but then begrudgingly admits he thought it was a good joke.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Someone outright gives Danny a long-winded "The Reason You Suck" Speech. Danny then admits it was pretty funny.
    • Charlotte insults Danny jokingly, he's very briefly mildly miffed then starts laughing and continues laughing for a long time, Charlotte even lampshades this with "okay, it wasn't THAT funny".
    • Danny strips Charlotte naked, handcuffs her to a pole and lets strangers take photos of her. She finds it hilarious and laughs.
  • Downplayed: Danny is mostly offended by the joke, so it doesn't take him until later to realize it actually was pretty funny.
  • Justified:
    • Danny is a Nice Guy with enough of a sense of humor to take a few jokes at his expense.
    • Danny still thought it was a pretty well-thought-out joke.
  • Inverted:
    • Dude, Not Funny!
    • Danny admits it's funny from the moment the joke is made.
    • Danny laughs at the joke, but later on privately admits that the joke did kind of hurt.
    • Charlotte tries to compliment Danny, but it backfires.
  • Subverted:
    • Danny seems like he's going to find the joke funny, but gets mad at Charlotte instead.
    • Danny seems to be laughing or smiling about the joke... but it turns out he actually was thinking of something else.
  • Double Subverted: Later on, he looks back on the incident and laughs about it, though.
  • Parodied: Danny's friend, Charlotte, makes a joke at his expense, but instead of begrudgingly admitting it was funny, Danny dramatically overreacts, feigning intense offense and outrage. He dramatically clutches his chest, exclaiming, "How dare you insult me in such a manner! I am deeply wounded!"
  • Zig-Zagged: Charlotte's jokes land some times, but not at others.
  • Averted: Nobody begrudgingly admits something is funny to begin with.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: After Danny begrudgingly admits the joke was funny, he sarcastically comments, "Oh yeah, hilarious. You really got me there."
  • Invoked: Charlotte is actually a shill, "making fun" of Danny so that he can "take it in stride".
  • Exploited: Charlotte uses this as an opportunity to tell jokes around Danny more often, especially ones made at his expense, knowing he won't be too offended.
  • Defied: Danny immediately scowls at Charlotte, and she quickly takes the hint that her jokes are not appreciated.
  • Discussed: "If the roast is good enough I might forgive it from laughing!"
  • Conversed:
    • "Everyone I meet claims that they'll shake any insult if it's funny enough."
    • "The scene where Danny still found Charlotte's joke pretty funny was a good way of showing how he's Not So Above It All."
  • Implied:
    • The audience doesn't witness the actual joke or Danny's reaction, but other characters later mention how Danny begrudgingly laughed at Charlotte's insult.
    • Danny doesn't outright admit to finding the joke funny, but he appears to be trying not to smile/laugh at Charlotte's joke.
  • Unparodied: The trope is played straight without any subversion or mockery. Danny genuinely finds the joke funny despite it being made at his expense.
  • Untwisted: It is initially expected that Danny will be deeply hurt by the joke, but he surprises everyone by laughing along and admitting it was funny.
  • Deconstructed: The negative consequences of the joke made at Danny's expense are explored in-depth, highlighting the emotional impact and strain it puts on their relationship.
  • Reconstructed: Despite the initial tension caused by the joke, Danny and Charlotte eventually reconcile and develop a deeper understanding of each other's sense of humor, leading to a stronger bond between them.
  • Played for Horror: Black Comedy

Okay, I'll admit it was Actually Pretty Funny.
