- The vampires themselves are soulless, sociopathic predators that look like human sharks and know exactly how to cut off their little snack bar from any chance of escape.
- One simple scene: The vampires attempt to use a survivor as bait. When it doesn't work, they loom around the woman and she tearfully says "Please god..". Marlow then lets out a snarl of "God?", before looking all around before cruelly shaking his head and simply saying "No god". Jesus. And then the vampires proceed to circle the woman and slash her repeatedly until one eventually bites into her neck.

- The situation the inhabitants were in: there was just no way out, and more importantly, those vampires are among the scariest and meanest. Quick, strong, silent, predatory, sadistic, cold. The worst might be that characters one really cared for got changed into vampires. Nightmare & Heartbreak all in one.
