The premise of one segment of the sequel. Imagine driving home the day of the Purge. Then your car breaks down as the Purge begins.
It's actually even worse than just breaking down: imagine someone purposefully sabotaging your car so you would be easier to capture or pick off. You're literally not safe even before the Purge's timer starts.
Depending on your point of view, the revelation that many of the murders aren't the work of the common man, but the government desperately trying to make the Purge seem more effective than it is. This simultaneously shows it isn't that terrible of a Crapsack World... but also how batshit insane the New Founding Fathers are.
