Nightmare Fuel / Teeth

Go To

  • Vaginas with teeth that can bite off offending appendages in full bloody graphic detail? Anyone who's into lady parts might just consider taking up celibacy... Or anal.
  • The thought that nearly everyone around you, including authority figures like your gynecologist, is just waiting for an opportunity to try something indecent with you makes for some lovely Paranoia Fuel.
  • Tobey's attempted rape of Dawn. Unlike the rest of this movie, there's absolutely nothing funny about it. The way he pins her down and muffles her screams sounds all too similar to real-life rape stories. Also, the way he says "you're still pure in His eyes" makes it clear that the only reason he's religious is because the Values Dissonance allows him to excuse his attempts to rape girls.
  • A subtle one: shortly after biting her gynecologist, Dawn is riding her bicycle home when the police turn up right next to her with their lights flashing and start giving commands to pull over... to what turns out to be some guy on a motorcycle who's evading arrest. As anyone who's ever been in her situation can attest, when you're already scared out of your wits, having the police apparently coming after you makes your situation about a thousand times worse.
  • Dawn's hosting of the purity seminar after Tobey's attempted rape. The way the crowd of children speak religious scripture in unison is insanely creepy.
    • The subtext may make it creepier. Dawn works in a Christian Chasity club to preach to children, and following her near sexual assault tries to do a speech for said club. She is left flustered, confused, and tries to describe her feeling without expressly revealing what happened to her. Her audience begin quoting sermons that implicate women as being temptress, and that there may be something wrong with them. What this may bring to mind, is controversy's of sexual abuse within fundamentalist groups, whereupon being discovered, the victim may be subjected to Victim-Blaming by their church; especially if they are young women like Dawn. Here, Dawn is trying to imply she was sexually assaulted, and is describing her turmoil, while her audience responds with passages that imply she is somehow at fault.
Dawn: Mr. Vincent asked me to talk about purity today.
      Children: Purity, yes!
Dawn: Yeah? And... yesterday...I could have done that...because yesterday I was pure.
Children: "She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man."
Dawn: Adam. Right. I can't make sense of it yet. I—Uh...Is that it? Is... Is... Is it the Adam inside? Inside—
Children: "Bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh."
      Dawn: I don't know. Phew, I don't know. But there is something...There is something...inside of... me...that's lethal.
      Children: The serpent.
Dawn: I don't know. I don't know what it is.
Children: "The serpent beguiled me, and I ate."
(Mr. Vincent steps in and gently ushers Dawn off the stage.)
Mr. Vincent: I think what Dawn is getting at is so important, people— exile from the garden.
Children: (whispering in unison as Dawn walks past) Serpent. Serpent. Serpent.
Mr. Vincent: Though it was not part of God's original plan... thanks to Eve and the devil, we—
