Try not to read Tales of the Unusual in the dead of night. Not every story is scary, but you won't be sleeping if you read the wrong one.
  • "The Gallery of the Damned" gives a horrifying close-up of the protagonist's overdosed corpse near the end.
  • "Ghost Hunting" has a shot in which Jihye is surrounded by a multitude of ghosts trapped in the wallpaper. The look of the ghosts is terrifying even after she leaves the room.
  • "The Painting" is about several ghosts coming out of a man's paintings and haunting his partner as she sleeps, which is reminiscent of sleep paralysis. At the end, it's revealed that this story was based on an acquaintance's real experience, which means it has already been somebody's nightmare.
  • "Beauty Water" has several depictions of liquid flesh. The shot of Yaeji lying in the tub, reduced to bones and a few clumps of flesh, is especially disturbing.
  • "The Dream-sharing Stone" ends with the protagonist's deceased girlfriend haunting his dreams, looking just as rotten as he says.
  • "Demonic Bloodweed" has its fair share of demonic creatures—animals that have gained human traits. The first is a large Creepy Crow with a visible brain, bulging eyes, and More Teeth than the Osmond Family. The story ends with a man getting pushed into a pit of human skeletons and looking up at a variety of those menacing creatures.
  • "New Beauty Water" continues with the Body Horror of its predecessor. One woman's jaw falls off as she makes a Slasher Smile for added terror. At the conclusion, Yaeji escapes in a ball of flesh that looks as scary as it is gross.
  • The oil bugs from "Oil Bug Diet" hit the intersection of creepy and Creepy Cute with their large eyes and teeth. The story ends with Seonhui brushing oil on Young Eun's face and letting one of the oil bugs eat her face and lay eggs in it.
